RotaryExtreme.com exhaust
I was just checking out rotaryextreme.com and it looks like they're working on an exhaust. They have a video posted and it sounds pretty nice...

what a total fart can.
what's everyone's deal with these absolutely HUGE resonators?? volume?? it's fine to me, i just hate the stupidly HUGE resonators, with their stupidly HUGE tips, screwing up the frequency of the sound, giving it a "deeper tone" (<- that's the fart). christ... if only everyone who buys aftermarket exhaust wasn't so dense as to think that no less than 3" internal diameter all the way back wasn't the best thing in the world, and that less internal pressure MUST equal less back pressure... *sigh*

I think you all are a bit overly-fixated on the sound, considering you're judging it based on listening to an audio sample, recorded on God only knows what, on your computer. I'm reasonably certain I could take one exhaust and make it sound about ten different ways, depending on how I recorded it. Personally, I was interested to see how they've constructed it....they seem to have fewer right angles in the exhaust path, which you would think would lead to better flow. Maybe. I'd like to see dyno comparisons rather than more audio samples of dubious merit.

RX-7 Guru
JDS is right - it's REALLY hard to tell what an exhaust sounds like from a recording. Being familiar with how RX-7's (turbo and non-turbo) sound, that sounds EXCELLENT. In person it will sound way better, and likely sound incredible under load.
Getting a deep tone is what you want on a rotary. Non-turbos have a tendency to get a "weed-whacker" sound - real high-pitched whiney sound. A non-turbo 2nd gen with headers and a Dynomax cat-back will make you cringe.
Part of the problem with a recording like that is you don't get the full frequency range - a lot of a good exhaust tone is in the low-end of the audio spectrum. You're not gonna hear that from a crappy mic on a camcorder, then digitized, then played through computer speakers.

although i'm not snooty and dispise V8's and say you can't make any good power from them comparatively ('cause it can be done), i don't really like their sound. yes, i AM actually a fan of weed whackery. i like small combustion chambers and high rpm: 2stroke motors are some of my faves.
if we're gonna compare sound samples, let's then hear some of the best:
...poopy. scuderia ciriani took down their 787B movies... i don't have them anymore 'cause my computer is sickly, old, and space concientiousness is a necessity.

The exhaust tone is actually pretty deep. The video was recorded by a digital camera that can take short movies. It does not have the best microphone in the world.
The selling point of our exhaust is that it's not outrageous loud. It's mild enough that you can still listen to your classical music inside the car when you are just cruising. But when you floor it, you can hear the nice exhaust tone. I will use a better recording device to record the sound after the product is ready.
The 2nd selling point is that our exhaust does not have those sharp 90 degree bend at the Y like others. It will have better flow.
We will dyno the finish product after it's done so the result will be accurate.

Rotary Extreme Exhaust Questions
Has anybody installed the rotary extreme exhaust on their car?
Any idea on the horsepower gains? Torque gains?
I like the sound of this exhaust best and was just wondering about its quality.

Our exhaust is not released yet. We made the prototype here in the US and send it to Japan to have those mass produced. Our shipment will not be here until end of Janauary.
Thank you.

Photos of Rotary Extreme exhaust Beta
We have got the beta tester from our Japanese manufacturer. Here are some photos:
1. Our unique V Shape Design minimizes bending angles at the split of the mufflers to roughly 45 degrees to maximize exhaust flow. 1st one on the market.
2. Our 3 piece design minimizes shipping box size so shipping is cheaper for the customers.
3. Our piping comes fully polished to mirror shine. The pipes were polished before welding. Some companies polish the piping after welding to hide bad welds. We polish the pipe before welding to show the true quality of welds. The TIG weld on our exhaust is a piece of art.
4. Another angle of the exhaust
The systems should be ready for sale by the end of January. Dyno sheet coming soon.

Already got a video clip on the website from our prototype that was made 2 months ago.
Please go to http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rx8exhaust.html.
Scroll down and you can see a link for video clip.
The clip is taken from a digital cam with video recording function so the sound is not really close to the real sound. The sound in real life is much deeper. We will take a sound clip from a better camera once we finish dyno testing on the beta.

Looks nice... I'll be waiting for that dyno before I decide which exhaust I am buying.
Might even be able to save a little money on shipping to get the exhaust and intake from the same company.
Link doesn't work for me either. There is an extra "." at the end. Try this:

BTW... what size are those tips?
