RP Short shifter experiment

Hey, so I just got the awesome SS from Richard. He was nice enough to install it for me.

I get this strange buzz in my SS in 1st and 2nd gear. It's almost like a whirling sound.
I'm also using a Voodoo Shift ****, so that may be the issue, but I also have the green fuzz cone out.

So i thought I'd try out an experiment to try to help out the community and myself.

I'm ordering some materials now but I thought I'd outline the plan.

I'll be comparing sounds made by my new SS in a couple different situations:

(Everything with stock **** and voodoo ****)

Without Green Triangle:
With Packing foam under my shift ****

With teflon tape around SS threads

With stock Green cone:
With Packing foam under my shift **** (varying thicknesses from .5-4 inches)

With teflon tape wrapped around SS threads

With trimmed Green cone:
With Packing foam under my shift **** (varying thicknesses)

With teflon tape wrapped around SS threads

I'm going to try to get some sort of sound metering device to get the noise levels.

All that being said, does anyone have a stock green cone they'd be willing to donate?

I told you if that happened put the stock **** back on.
Plus it will be the right height, your vodoo is countersunk and lowers the ****.

But if yoy get a decibel meter then it might all be interesting.

Oh I'm not complaining (too much)
I just thought it'd be neat to try to figure out a way around it and maybe dampen it a little.

I could always go back to stock **** I suppose.

Yea I go to cal. I was going to try to "borrow" a decibel meter from a lab.

I saw your fix, the thing is I really don't want to dremel the basket, I just need to dampen the noise in 1st and 2nd gear.

I have the AFE SS and Voodoo ****. I don't get any weird sounds but I have a suspicion why. I you look at the attached photo you'll see that I've installed a Redline leather boot. The Redline boot didn't come with the plastic ring at the top of the boot; It had four leather tabs. I forced the four tabs up into the countersink of the Voodoo **** and tightened it down effectively using the leather to dampen any vibrations...

Bro, you don't need to dremel it. I found later on, that mine was just abnoormally thin. PM Richard Paul.

My Voodoo **** was not a good fit with the AFE SS. Same problems your describing, whirling, etc. I put the stock **** back on, 100% better. I think being countersunk it changed the dynamics or the leverage point and actually was worse than the stock ****. Now I've got a quite SS and great shift action. Try this and report back.
