^^ i think there was a 10mm spacer so that the shifter sat 5mm higher than stock (like the mazdaspeed one?)...but he took it out so now it site 5mm lower than stock...at least that's what i gatherd

'Mez hopefully there will be a Victorian meeting day just before I leave for Hong Kong on the 14th... even better when I come back. We can show case the shifter, the sCANalyser, Hymee grill and exhaust, my second oil cooler and the lot!
I am sure if I throw in a BBQ there will be a big turnout - won't that be fun.

Well the cats well and truly out of the bag now. I've been a little shy about revealing too much detail about the changes Richard made 'cos he was waiting on Philodox's feedback. Nothing like getting a comparison from someone who has intimate knowledge on what the opposition shifter is like!
Richard measured the MS shifter as having a 27% shorter throw than the original. His shifter was engineered to have the same reduced throw, but with a different design. The recent mod has reduced the installed height by 10mm. This will effectively shorten the throw even further. I don't know, but it's probably a third less than stock now......
Philodox tells me he reckons its perfect. He's had a MS shifter for a while, if he's rapt with the Richard Paul jobbie, then that's a big rap for Richards design. Richard still has to get vendor status I suppose, so it may be a little while before you see the price advertised. Suffice to say, it is cheaper than the MS one .
Bring it on......

Great news. I have the MS shifter. How much shorter is Richard's compared to the MS?
I heard the MS is 20% shorter. Since Jon claims even shorter, that's good.
...but sitting lower than stock is something I don't like. MS is about 1-1.5cm higher, so difference between the 2 is about 2-2.5cm. For me, the closer the shifter to the steering wheel the better. Just my opinion

Mazdaspeed advertise "approximately 20%" shorter than stock......
Richard has measured the MS shifter as a 27% shorter throw than stock. His is now even shorter than that. As I said above in an earlier post, it's probably a throw around a third shorter than stock now. The height has been reduced by 10mm with the latest mod. It was 5mm taller than the stock shifter, now it's 5mm lower than the stock shifter. The MS short shifter has an installed height about 10mm higher than the stock shifter, I believe.

Anyhow.. just went for another drive with Richards shifter in my 8. The gates are soooo close to each other, but the shifter just finds it's way as if it's being guided on rails. I'm just in love with this thing! Too bad it's snowing outside or I would be out driving still.. hehe

Thanks Gomez. One third is very good.
The bad thing with the MS is that is a bit pricy. The 'spacer' (let me call it that) that comes along in the box, is about 10-15mm thick...

Tell me you didn't go out in the cold and mic that thing up?? Anyway, here in Australia where it's a balmy 24 deg C right now it'd measure 10mm due to the temp related coefficient of expansion :D .
Go"nice and warm"mez.

OK here are the real numbers. The throw is 29% shorter. I can't promise but I beleive that MS is 27% although they claim 20% Originally we had a 10 mm spacer in it so in order to not make it to high we split the diff and made the shaft 5mm shorter. Then we found a way to eliminate the plate. That lowered it 10mm from target or 5mm less then stock. By chance this happened to wind up perfect according to feed back from the first couple of users. So we decided to leave it this length instead of making the next batch plus 5mm.
According to both Jon and the other one we did Saturday you don't even have to lift your arm just rest it and flick with your fingers or wrist as Jon says.
You can see by Jon's pictures that any lower and you'd be putting your fingers into the gearbox. :D
There is one other change from the pictures that were posted. We have added a plastic band around the middle of the shaft for the rubber boot to seal against.

[We need Richard to chew the fat with Ryan and become a vendor.....[/QUOTE]
While I would like that it is not going to happen real soon. I talked with them and though the fee is reasonable this one product can't support it. When the SC comes on line then we can do it.
The good news is that the website is being built. Sorry if this is a little confusing at first but everything will work out. Time being you just have to contact me direct.
This alone is probably running along the thin line. Sorry Omicron. Zoom and others.
