RP SS issues

I know it will be replaced but just wanted to post so people remember to always pay attention to any aftermarket item you put on your car. The shifter has been feeling a tiny bit spongy the last 2 days, today I lost 6th gear.

Luckily I was able to make it home and swap in my stock shifter... this is what I found:

Running stock tranny fluid and I don't track the car at all.

Just so everyone knows, this could happen again and I would still swear by the RP SS, it's just feels that good!

black cup is what's on the af website. I believe that's the original version. I've owned two AFE STS and both had the yellow cup.

that sucks. At least AFE is a good company so you should get a new one.

Did you find the little yellow plastic piece or is it possible floating around inside your transmission case right now?

if the cup damaged the tranny, worrying about replacing the sts would be the least of his worries...

I looked down the hole with a flashlight and couldnt see anything. So it's either destorying my trans right now or just slowly "melted" over time.

I'm on my 3rd. First time I got it back from the dealer, so I thought they jacked up my tranny, so they replaced it. Second time I saw it was the shifter, and had it replaced. No clue why it happens, but I hope this one holds up.

Hmm.. Tiny little piece of plastic vs sharp pointy teeth of steel

Methinks your trans will be ok. Just don't lose any bolts down there

Yeah, I was mostly tongue in cheek over the "destorying my trans" comment. When I lost 6th gear on the freeway my first thought was "damn, I'm going to have to go back to stock".

If you ever want to improve your love for the AFE SS, swap in you stock for a few days. It's just this giant turd sandwhich to drive now, I hate it.

When the frustration with the 8 builds up a little I drive my parents' subaru outback for a while... The shifting in particular makes a huge difference - going from the "stirring the pasta" feel to the "rifle bolt" feel

I know he was coming out with a metal bushing version for the more hard core audience: "lower bushing will be aluminum-silicone-bronze". Still not on the site.

Same thing happened to mine, but I was on turn 11 at Road America when it happened. RP gave me a full refund with no questions asked. Best customer service I ever got.
