RP Supercat vs. SR Motorsports

Who has the best high flow cat? I have been researching the two above and can't decide which one to buy. I also want something that throw the CEL.
I appreciate your help!

Thanks,
Urby

I had both. Currently running the RP Supercat. Both of them are very high quality pieces. Both very well made. I had them put a resonator/silencer on my SR unit ($59 option), and it was very quiet. I sold it at the time because it made my Greddy turbo pop/backfire, but later on I got them to tune that out. I wish I had kept it. But you can't go wrong with either one. The RP unit is a bit louder because it does not have the silencer on the unit.

I currently am running the sr with the silencer/resonator option. Sounds almost stock to me(passed the girlfriend test! she didnt even notice). The only difference I can tell is the backfire when I let off around 8000-8700rpm when shifting at times. Other than that I think it sounds pretty much stock. If I could do it over again I would order without the resonator, but thats just me.

I have the SR unit without the resonator and the Greddy SP2, my wife didn't notice a difference!!!

I certainly did though

What I like about the SR cat is it has the hanger, RP didn't the last time I checked.

I just installed the Canzoomer 1.1 and will be tuning out the pop.

Under normal driving there isn't any pop of the exhaust but if it is revved a few times up into the 8s it will give a couple without tuning.

Not sure on a stock catback exhaust though. Malamore may be able to give feedback on that.

Those that have aftermarket cats does it help to have the Revi?

Yeah, that's the way I like it. Near stock at idle levels, and opens up at WOT. I'm older (34) so I don't really like it too lod. I guess it just is really up to the individual. My setup with the SR Motorsports hi-flow cat (w/ resonator) & RB Catback exhaust was probably the best sounding setup I had.

I've been looking at hi-flow cats and my only concern is the exhaust heating up more than normal causing the bumper to melt some. Any truth to this? Thanks

I believe they both will.

It's worth it though.

You can always get an aftermarket ecu and tune it then you will get even more power and a smooth sound.

This only happened after I installed my RP Supercat midpipe. Went for a test drive up my favorite mountain road and smelled burning plastic. It wasn't a big deal, I just trimmed a bunch of the plastic off the exhaust shrouds and its been fine after that. It was a pain in the *** to get the melted plastic off the tips though.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. Now I know they are both good products. I will decide here shortly, and let you know how it goes after I get it installed

did any of you guys install any of these units before adding a catback? i'm curious to know whether or not a catback is worth adding in terms of gains. i really don't care so much about the sound. i know the cat pipes will def make gains... please help.

I have the RP cat and OEM cat-back. Never had the car dyno'd. I do think the car feels a bit more peppy in the upper rev range, but nothing that will blow you away. The sound is throaty and more aggressive. That said, I revved mine next to someone with just a Racing Beat cat-back and theirs was louder than mine.

I have the rp supercat installed with the stock exhaust. I think it sounds great pretty quiet (my wife coudnt tell the difference) Performance gain is definately noticeable.

i'm starting to realize that the only reasons for upgrading our exhaust would be for a nicer sound & reduced weight. i think simply swapping out the cat pipe is the way to go if you're on a budget...

I swapped out my cat for the high-flow unit simply because I know how loud a rotary can be and didn't know about doing both that and a cat back system as I feared it would be too loud. And since I plan on using some sort of FI, I didn't want the heat generated from the engine to burn through the OEM cat. For me, replacing the cat was the more logical choice. That said, now that I've had the cat for the last ~10K, I'm probably going to do a cat back at some point in the near future also.

i have the rp supercat and the RB exhaust and it sounds perfect. I had the RB exhaust first and the sound was fine, but no real noticeable power difference, but as soon as i added the rp supercat there was more power and the tone was perfect. I highly recommend the supercat. No cel's,6000km, just remember to swap the gaskets and you will be fine. A hanger was a 2 second job to put on. good luck.

Who did you have put the hanger on. You got some pics of your work. I was thinking of jerry-rigging something. I am leaning towards the SuperCat but I am concerned about getting the hanger on

no need to jerry rig anything just stop by a local midas or exhaust shop and have them cut off old hanger and weld on to rp cat

no need to cut off the old hanger....a good muffler shop will put a new one on. Then you can keep the old cat intact.
