rx-8 tune up!

I am currently trying to locate a place to tune up my rx-8...
i only have about 3-4k to spare for this upgrade, but i dont know which part to tune up first.

I know changing various parts will charge up the hp, but will the handling of the car be GREATLY affected?

and how much is needed if I want to tune it up to match......say 350Z?

Best bet is to get the Can Zoomer unit, and tune it. That is really the only product out there adding major hp to this car. Beyond that go for the lightened flywheel & hi-flow cat or midpipe. Those are your best bets for maximum acceleration and/or hp gains (flywheel won't give you hp gains, but it will improve your hp gains. $3K to $4K won't get you into forced induction so the CZ unit is about as good as it gets.

Save that $3-4k for FI.. coming soon to a theatre near you. You'll need every penny.

$4k should be enough. I'd guess a turbo kit will run $3500-5000 range. With the kits apparently coming out around Feb/March, I'd just wait, unless you want a little something right now, then a CZ will run you about $550 used (with canscan and programming cable), or $950 new. The CZ will still only net you 20-30 hp, so if you want bigger gains, nothing will help until FI.

If you dont have any concerns with losing your warranty, I would agree with a CZ. I would personally recommend waiting for FI if you only have 4k to spend (be prepared to save up a little more). If you fully intend on keeping your warranty, I would stick to the basics. $4k will get you a handful of nice additions (especially if you are looking for a more aggresive sound), Intake and exhaust are nice additions, but dont expect any real gains from them. You can get a really great suspension kit for $1k - $1.5k. Light weight flywheel and pulleys are a nice addition.
