RX7 Rotor Housings on Renesis Engine

RX7 Rotor Housings on Renesis Engine
So Al and Ray showed some interest when I brought this topic up, as this was something I've been sort of trying to understand more for awhile. I've noticed the two top NA RX8's in Japan right now are the Knight Sports RX8 and the Panspeed RX8. Both are running with a Peripheral Ported Renesis engine.. Now how did they do that? They had swapped our rotor housings for the rotor housings from a 2001 RX7 FD 13B. Interesting, huh?

This video is taken from Knightsports "Rotary Doctor" which is their driver, but also their tuner guy. Notice in the description he says 314.6 PS at the rear wheels, which is roughly about 310 at the rear wheels...that's pretty impressive for a NA rotary if you ask me. Panspeed is right up there with 298 PS at the rear wheels, which I'm guessing is right around 293.

So I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts about this and why this hasn't really been looked into more? Why haven't we seen more of this, whether it be in Japan or America? Greenblurr93 brought up a very good point..why don't we do this to the rotor housings, but instead of doing a powerful, yet NOT long lasting port like a Peripheral, why not a bridge port? Or some other type of port?
Or, because we're ONLY changing the rotor housings and not everything else.. does this mean the Peripheral port is no longer a dangerous port that makes the engine only last 6000 miles? I just wanted to hear people's thoughts and insight on this, as this really shows hope to those who want to stay NA (like me) and prove that the rotary has some nuts to it.
The last question being..What happens if we just change the rotor housings to an RX7 and then call it a day. Will we see any change from this? Same power, more or less?

Interesting swop and considering that it is generating approx. 300 whp in NA trim.
If we can do the housing swop and maintain daily streetability while generating 230-240whp.......that would be sweet.........

That would totally be sweet. But like I mentioned, that raises the question if we do it like this, would the perphieral port no longer make the engine only last 6000k? Or is just swapping the housing good enough, you know?

?? I dont see how this would affect peripheral port "reliability". Unless you're building a race engine i would advise against it... And why would you use the renesis internals , i dont think they would fit would they? Unless im missing something , this just isn't worth it , unless its cheap to do -__-... Anyways im interested too , subscribed

I thought renesis rotors were bigger, but I could be wrong. But again, must be a reason they're doing it..I mean look at what they're seeing for HP gains. That's impressive. Imagine if it was turbo'd?

Right, which is not what Knight Sports did for that video at that time. For that video at the time they were just running a rx7 motor but they have later on since then (I wish I found the material somewhere that I read before) done the same that Panspeed has done. Easy I want some of your input here.. lol

It's an interesting concept.
I know the seals are different with Renesis rotors, mainly the apex seals i much shorter. I'm not sure how it would like a P port. I guess we can all sit around and bench race but what we need if for someone to build one of these.
The other issue would be you would need custom motor mounts, since changing the housing would relocate the mounting holes. And obviously a custom exhaust manifold. Just adds to the expense.\
Oh yeah, I remember that Panspeed 8 was in Turbo magazine a few years ago (on the cover). It had Renesis plates with the exhaust ports filled in and FD housings with Renesis rotors and e-shaft. So it basically used the Renny intake ports which are much larger than standard 13B intake ports.
