RX8 hand held Flash tuner?

One question about this device. Will it be possible to easily determine if a car has had a new map uploaded? Of course, I assume it would require the use of the tool, but I do have concerns about the impact such a tuning tool would have on B-stock SoloII. If it is impossible to tell if the car has an alternative map, I could see this becoming a common "cheat." If, on the other hand, you could connect the tool (or other scan tool) and check the map, then at least there would be a way to check somebody's car at impound.
For this to be effective, it would have to be simple - connect the tool, pick a menu item, and have it tell you wether or not a modified map is loaded. I'm not sure if this is even possible, short of checking all the entries (which would be difficult considering the number of different "stock" maps) but I thought I'd ask.

fastsvtss, you have not posted anything since 1/13/2006. I am starting to regret defending you against MM. You really need to keep this thread alive if you want support for your product. If you failed, then let us know.....it wouldn't be the first time a tuner gave up on the RX8. Be honest and you'll get more respect with future adventures.

they havent failed. they just run a business and havent looked in th eforum. ill shoot them an email to have them check in.
it probably already is a common cheat with other cars. it is not easily detectable.

Momentum Keeps Me Going
Didn't he say once he should just go away until he had a product? Otherwise peps just keep arguing w/him. So what new does he have to add until then?
Me guesses he's got plenty of feedback to keep him busy in the prep of the initial product esp. with a Feb/Mar intro date...and we all know how easy it is for dates to slip.
I have faith... I saw nothing to doubt him in any post.

you won't be able to check squat in SCCA Stock, these tools are typically designed to work for your VIN or serial number only once you do the first connect.
Otherwise one person would buy the tool and just upgrade other owners for free or a small charge, a company can't make a living that way ... only someone intimate with the factory programming and having full access to the base code is in the position to assess whether or not the original factory programming has been tampered with, i.e. the people who designed it. Even if you could check it yourself, the RX-8 has so many different flash versions out there you wouldn't be able to tell what was a factory change vs tampering.

My absence to this thread doesn't mean that the project has been killed. There seems to have been enough interest for this product that we have decided to move forward with it. Right now we're at a point in time where we need to gather & decipher information. It turns out (as some have already mentioned) that the RX-8 ecu reading/writing is unique and different than other applications (even within other Mazda vehicles). We've also spent some time with the Mazda 6 during the past couple weeks and it's completely different than the RX-8.
At this time, I do not want to predict a release date (that usually gets one in trouble). What I will say is that we are going to do this project and it will be done before Summer.
bascho, I'm sorry if you regret defending me. Although I appreciated it, it is not necessary for you to do so.

[QUOTE=MazdaManiac]Yeah it does, but it is soft. Somewhere in the 145 MPH range. Guys that pass that on a dyno do so because the front wheels aren't moving. No speed measurement, no limit!
Not on my car i hit over 155mph with no cut off .

Just hope you do release before the summer. I am actually tired of vendors saying that they be out with a product in X time frame and a year later of that X time frame there is nothing.

1. sct can flash the Fusion. Fusion 3.0 w/6speed AT is all the same parts as the Mazda6. flash compatibility confirmed by WDS hooked up to 3.0 Fusion showing same flash level as 3.0 Mazda6. i dont think even SCT has realized it as they havent mentioned it.
2. sniper has been working with the mazda6club.com guys as well as us in this thread. have also flashed a mazda 6.
these are the first denso pcms to be aftermarket flashed

The Fusion/Mazda6 with the 3.0 V6 engine uses an entirely different ECU/PCM than the RX-8. Denso Vs Renasas (based on what Zoom44 said).
Also..
1. The 3.0L V6 isn't offered in Japan... only the 2.0L and 2.3L engines.
2. The 3.0L V6 is a Ford Duratec engine.
The only thing that I can think of that may help here is if Mazda used the SDK to write an app that contains the actual maps and algorithms used to run the car. The Vehicle OS from Hitachi/Renasas is just that... an OS. And as we all know, an OS alone does just about nothing (think of a PC with nothing but windows on it).

.
.
but the rx8 flashes clearly say Denso in the bits that a hex editor can decipher. i agree they are different PCMs. with soem different internals BUT they are still built by denso- so this is a start in the right direction for us.
If SCT can also flash the 2.3 of the Fusion/6 then they can flash the 2.3 of the Mazda3 from there they arent far from doing the 2.0 which is used in the MX-5 etc which i have been saying to them for 6 months or more
