rx8 vs s2000
dont know if this thread has been posted but just wondering what performance parts out there we can get to have the same or better performance than a s2000? instead of a turbo

The '04 S2000 runs on 17s, softer supspension and has 10hp less (230hp -at least the euro version that I know). It's still lighter though, but it's slower than previous models. The performance gap with the 8 should be smaller now.
As for the top speed of the 8, its not limited. I've seen 151mph with ease, while friends of mine have reached 163mph... but comparing top speeds is lame.

Even the 2004 cars are stiffer in suspension than the RX8 (which I have now). The only way for an 8 to catch a stock S2K would be for it to go on a serious diet, gain some HP, and stiffen the suspension.

As Banannie pointed out, in North America, the '04 S2000's 2.2 L engine is rated at 240 hp, but is believed to produce more. I don't have power stats for the rest of the world, but since the rest of the world retained the previous 2.0 L engine, I don't see why they'd make less power.
Although the suspension was revised on the '04 S2000, consensus is that performance differences between it and the earlier models are vanishingly small; I've never seen someone who'd performed objective tests say that it's definitely slower, although there are some situations where the earlier cars have an advantage.
Back to the original question, having driven Banannie's lightly prepped RX-8 as well as all manner of S2000s ranging from stock to fully prepped for SCCA Stock competition, I have to agree with her that, although the RX-8's a fun car, it's got its work cut out for it keeping up with an S2000 around a track.
