Hot. I just bought a used Supercat, and I want it to be loud as f***. Cops don't really pull over loud cars in my area. I'm in a car club and there are cars that set off alarms when they go by...so I think I should be just fine.

I'll use the supercat while I'm under warranty, then when it fails, I'll gut it and weld in a resonator.

PS: I also have the GReddy SP2.

Sweet I will be gutting the SR and putting a resonator in place of it.

Currently I have a 3" midpipe non-resonated and it is a touch too loud for naturally aspirated. I don't hear it so much but when someone is next to me I can hear it bounce off of them and it is loud!

Bridges... loud.

Very cool sound when wide open and cars are passing going the opposite direction.

This is very true. I at first only had the RX8 Store cat-back. Which I got because I thought it had a more aggressive sound than a lot of the other cat-backs on the market. When I put the RX8 Store HFC on in addition man was it loud. I've been riding on it for a couple months now so it has calmed down, but yes I can tell its quite loud especially when beside other objects on the road. I was actually thinking of putting a resonator in it, but to be honest I do like the sound it makes now I'm just wary of the attention it grabs.

You can do that? I don't know much about resonators - I thought you had to weld them on the end of the pipe or something. Mind telling me a little more about how you're doing that?

Whoops... I am torn between cutting the cat out and welding a resonator in place Or gutting it and adding welding a resonator later in the pipe.

Guess I was thinking about it mid post.

An update for anyone with our cat that gets rattling from the cross brace. We had a car come in with the same problem and found that if you add two washers so the brace is extended down, the cat wont rub or rattle on it. This isnt a problem on every car, but is a good fix and a lot easier than putting a brace on it.

I just got my Supercat installed today, no rattle.

I have a GReddy SP2, and this supercat...it's LOUD and BEAUTIFUL.

I love it.

I found an awesome description of a resonator:

A resonator is one part in exhaust systems that works with the muffler to reduce noise, by making sound waves "cancel each other out"[1]. The "exhaust note" is an important feature for many vehicle owners, so both the original manufacturers and the after-market suppliers use the resonator to enhance the sound in some way - in particular so-called "ricers" use resonators on their 4-cylinder engines to give an exhaust note comparable to that of a V8 engine.

Received my Rx8store hi-flow cat today, thanks Jason for the quick delivery. Will report on my impressions when I get the time to put it on in the next few weeks.

I ended up putting a u-bolt on the cat and connecting it to the oem hanger pin by way of a leather strap. No welding and a quick fix. Who knows how long it will work but to double up, I also put extra washers on the cross-brace, per Jason. My drive home from my buddy's went well with no rattles. Hopefully it will last.

We found there is no need for the hanger but for some reason on some of the cats they will slightly touch the rear cross brace and cause it to rattle under decel. Adding a couple washers before the brace is put on will move it far enough away to fix that problem. Not sure why it happens on some cars and not on others.

Where exactly do you put this washers? On the connection point between the headers and cat? Or the connection point between the cat and mufflers?

Or even easier, are you talking about putting washers on the brace?

Sounds like washers on the brace, cause anywhere else doesn't make much sense....

But I'm buying the rx8store hfc, is it 345 for rx8club.com members?

Also another random question... If you didn't have a cat, and went to an exhaust shop to change the pipe to this, would they do it?

Happened with my resonated (no cat) midpipe also when I got it 6 or whatever months ago. I actually did the washer thing too, worked perfectly.

Keef, you know the cross member brace that is UNDER the pipe? You have to remove it to put the midpipe in? That's what he's talking about. When reinstalling it put a few washers in between the brace/bottom of car on each side when bolting it on.

Does the rattle sound like a buzzing?

No it sounds like a rattle. Metal against metal, it's pretty distinguishable.

I had a pretty bad rattle at first with my RX8Store HFC. Illinois roads suck! So I got a hanger installed a month or 2 after I bought it. I didn't try the washer trick

At first, my exhaust was really loud and sorta had a buzzy ricer sound so I figure I had a slight leak between my HFC and catback(which I also bought from Jason).

Now, I absolutely love the sound. I have put about 5000 miles on the HFC and I have seen exhaust temps of close to 2000 degrees. So far the RX8Store HFC has been a great product. Thanks Jason!

Okay, after awhile of driving with my supercat on, I'm getting bad rattling. How many washers did you guys use? 2? 3? I had the guy who put mine on at the shop put on washers, but it looks like he only put on one per bolt. Not only is it getting cold, but I have a motor mount issue, so rattles everywhere. It's embarassing to be driving around such a nice looking car and have such horrible rattles coming out of it.

PS: I only had it installed at a shop because my friend was a f*** idiot while we were installing it and rounded off one of the nuts toward the front of the car.

I finally got around to putting on my rx8store hfc and mazsport cooling mod. Adding two washers to each side of one of the braces (the one that appeared way to close to the cat pipe) worked great i.e. no rattle. Although a little on the raspy side when warming up, the hfc and ms catback combo is pure sex when warmed up at wot above 5k. The sound is almost indescribable; the sound clips do it no justice. What I was most pleased with is how docile I can still make it sound by just easing up on the gas. There is almost no drone or at least no more than what I had with only the ms catback.

Great product, I highly recommend it based on my initial impressions. Installation was fairly easy with two people, a 3 ton jack, and a pair of jackstands. The only problem I ran into was not having the necessary hardware to install the hfc. I thought I could salvage most of the nuts and bolts from the stock cat only to find most were either welded on or froze so tightly no amount of lubricant would remove them. A little improvisation on my grandfather's part and a quick scavenger hunt through the garage solved the issue though.

Another guy here torn between the two high-flow cats. Actually there are 2-3 of us in Greece that would like to throw the stock cat down a VERY steep cliff....
Anyway, some questions for both products: neither of them have a hanger in the middle section, so I either have to weld one on, or make do with the washer-thing solution that Jason provided to avoid rattling ?
Do both of these bolt-on to the stock exhaust piping (diameter-wise) ? I have the Trust PowerExtreme Ti exhaust, which is stock diameter (60mm), so I guess they bolt right on, but I would like a confirmation.
Also for Jason: an estimation for shipping to Greece ?

Ace, the rx8store cat will fit the stock piping. I have the mazdaspeed catback and it is the same size as the stock catback, and I had no problem with fitting the rx8store cat. It bolts right on, but you may need to buy some additional bolts, nuts, etc. because it comes with nothing. I put two washers on each bolt on each side of the brace that is closer to the rear of the car, and none on the brace closer to the front of the car because it seemed to have enough clearance.

What Ziel said is correct.

With regards to shipping there really isnt a cheap way to ship. I have tried sending it US Postal which is the cheapest but the box is to long and they wont take it. Only other option is Fedex or UPS which is outrageous. This is shipping out the states. Canada is cheaper because it can go ground.
