RX8store Midpipe PITA

first of all, this thread isn't anti-RX8store. i'm sure they make fine products, but i'm unhappy that i got a used product of theirs that has obvious defects.

i have an rx8store midpipe, which is obviously a first generation one. it doesn't have a hanger on it, and it's just.... not a great fit. has anyone else had this problem?

i've dealt with this for a little over two months now with no end in sight, as any exhaust i bolt on to it doesn't fit. the midpipe seems like it's... too short. combine that with the fact that there's not a hanger in the proper place to position it correctly and you've got a massive exhaust leak.

i've tried piling up gaskets, using rtv, every trick in the book but i still have a 1/2" gap at the top of the flange where the midpipe meets the catback. it will not mate up to the stock exhaust, my new HKS exhaust, or my buddy's borla that we tried. exact same problem every time.

anyone else have this problem?

o_O mine seemed fine, i dont think any from the rx8 store has a hanger. I was using the stock exhaust. i thought the gasket on the rear flange filled in decent enough. it took me and my friend a sec to realize how to get bolts on and dont remember a gap

the pipe length also no problem for me, had a pain putting the stock pipe back on

my tip would be connect the back first, then use the longer front bolts to pull it tight together....u have no idea how long i fought with those stupid spring bolts puting the stock back on till i did that

that's what i did. i bought some long bolts, huge washers, and some locking nuts. this weekend i'm going to put some locking nuts on the header.

this car still needs a flexpipe, though. an exhaust system has to have some give to it, and this one just doesn't. maybe mazda was worried that a woven flexpipe wouldn't stand up to the temperature?

Yeah, their original midpipes don't have hangers on it.
