Mine shows a little low, but fairly consistent - it gets better when you tell it you filled up, and enter the amount of gas. It learns a factor to correct itself.

I'd rather like to match the stock orange / red lights instead of the green - it looks out of place.

Just a quick update regarding this issue: I called Linear Logic, and they sent me a new display unit. Hooked that up, and it works perfectly, colors included - so my original one was defective.
Linear Logic's customer service was great - they sent me the new unit without any hesitation, including a return shipping label for the broken one :icon_tup:

SCANGAUGE WITH XGAUGE Functions ......

Anyone found additional PID's we can use for RX8.

Thus codes to enter for XGAUGE function in Scangauge 2

If somebody figures this out it would be awesome. If I could get trans temp and oil temp I'd be very happy. Would save me buying more gauges...

auzoom 10-10-2007 04:17 PM

I think it comes down to the fact that the RX8 has no Oil or transmissoin temperature sensor therefore the relevant pid would return no data.

I'm sorta excited about this, i bought mine direct from them around the end of august but i don't have the new version. (now i have to send it back, doh~)

Things in this list http://www.autoenginuity.com/Mazda-Sensor-List.html or this http://www.autoenginuity.com/sensor_list.html we might be able to look up. (Obviously only for the sensors/systems that apply to the RX-8)

Auto Enginuity is/should be doing basically the same thing, it's just a matter of figuring out the codes. I'm hoping that they (AE/Mazda) don't do any weird compound messaging that the scangauge isn't capable of, which could be the case - i don't know enough about the standards used.

It will be interesting to see what new info we can pull out. Anyone with the AutoEnginuity+Mazda module care to comment what they can see on an RX-8?

I'll wait a week or two (too busy right now) and then send mine in for the upgrade; in the meantime I'll keep checking around to see what new codes pop up.

mdw1000 10-17-2007 03:12 PM

Hmm, that list mentions "engine oil temperature fault", but not just engine oil temperature. Wonder if that means you can just get a yes or no on whether the oil is too hot by mazda standards? I'm hoping to be able to get oil temp...

mdw1000 10-17-2007 03:36 PM

With,

Did you try the "horsepower" one that is supposed to be universal?

With 10-18-2007 02:54 AM

yeah I got the horsepower one going ... Nogal Cool ! (nogal = kinda)

TXD=00, RXF=4000800000000, RXD=0000
MTH=000A00170000, NAM=HPR. Don't forget to SAVE.

Are we(RX8) suppose to use the Ford CAN Gauges ...have not tried any ...so maybe some one else can confirm ....

But to be honest , can't see why I would need Fuel Pump Width , Duty Cycle etc etc ... hardly know what half of that mean anyway .... :-)

With

mdw1000 10-18-2007 12:36 PM

With,

If you could try a couple of the Ford CAN codes, that would be good info for the rest of us! And I'm sure there's a bunch more that might be more useful that haven't been released yet.

Do you happen to have an AT? If so, could you try the transmission fluid temp one? I would love to get that one, would save me from buying a gauge for it. If you don't, could you try a couple of the others to see if they work or not? Maybe two or three of the ones that would apply regardless of transmission type, like fuel level and barometric pressure?

Thanks!

By the way, I was shocked at how quickly they sent it back to me. It arrived at their shop in AZ on Wed, and it made it back here on Saturday. Must have flashed it and sent it back out the same day. Great service!

I would be curious to know how the car calcuates horsepower. According to the scangauge, I've hit 236 hp. I doubt I gained 39 hp from the Mazmart water pump and Mazdaspeed exhaust.... :)

that would be crank HP, not WHP, so then isn't that right on target?

I have the 4-port 4AT. So my crank hp is supposed to be rated at 197.

mdw1000 11-02-2007 09:40 AM

Looks neat. It says they have a money back guarantee, so if you like it, and the measurements work out, give it a shot and let us know!

Only negative I see is it is a bit out of your line of sight. I have mine mounted on the dash to the left of the gauge cluster, behind the left side vent. Works well as I can just glance down quickly and see it.

Also keep in mind that you are going to have to route the cord to the OBDII port under the steering wheel.

DarkBrew 11-02-2007 01:31 PM

I ordered one of these last night.
Can't wait to try out some of this stuff!

mdw1000 11-02-2007 04:02 PM

Found out today from the dealer mechanic that there is no oil temp sensor, but the AT at least has a trans temp sensor. We were able to get that with their tools, but no oil temp.

turbine 11-04-2007 08:53 AM

Mounted mine inside the ash tray. Very nice.

DarkBrew 11-08-2007 08:19 PM

Installed mine tonight in about 3 minutes. This has to be the easiest mod ever.
Looks pretty cool sitting above the steering wheel.
The stored codes (2) (CEL on) were all P0000 ??
The car is running well with no obvious issues.
I was able to clear and the CEL turned off but I'm not sure what's up.
Now I have to wait until the test cycle completes. (not ready)
I took it out for a spin to try out the standard gauges.

EDIT:
New code P0037 - search says it's the rear O2 sensor. Just over 47K miles like so many other RX8s.

Update:
O2 sensor installed Nov 23 and code cleared.
I wonder how much I've saved already...

mdw1000 11-09-2007 01:17 PM

^ If you look on their website, they have some generic codes you can use to get O2 sensor data now, supposedly for any CAN equipped vehicle, using the xgauge functionality.

See this pdf for the stuff you need: http://scangauge.com/support/pdfs/XGAUGE.pdf

mdw1000 11-09-2007 01:20 PM

Wanted to post this in case anybody else noticed it. This is an email I sent to linear logic:

"I've been having a small problem since I got it back. Sometimes the instant MPG gauge reads "9999". While I wish that was the case, I think it is an incorrect reading :) Sometimes it will reset itself momentarily, other times it stays that way for quite a while. I also notice that the horsepower gauge that I added sometimes says "0.0" as well."

They responded with the following:

"The readings are true. Modern fuel injection systems use every trick to save gas. One trick is to shut off the fuel injection when the engine is being pulled along by the vehicle. This happens when you let off the gas at a high enough RPM during coasting in gear. We added the ability for the ScanGaugeII to detect this "fuel shutoff" condition. You may notice a slight increase in the drag on the car just before you see the 9999 MPG. 9999 is the largest number we can show and it signals no gas is flowing into the engine. You will notice that within a few seconds of stepping on the throttle this will go away. It takes a couple of seconds for the ScanGaugeII to sense this condition starting and stopping. The more you see this happen, the more gas you will save."

Someone needs to write a program to interface to a PDA....
When I was in the DSM world their was a slick piece of software called pocketlogger. It gave way more functionality than that AIM thing for $160....

It would give full access and logging to parameters.

You could display parameters in a variety of ways in realtime...including graphing

You could log the parameters and then pull them off to your PC during syncing.

EDIT: This OBDII version they have might work. Anyone willing to try it:

Yes, also known as deceleration fuel cutoff. This is why you never save gas coasting in neutral (it takes gas to idle).

anyone get the xguage function to read the WBO2 sensor?

Zephyrzone 11-09-2007 01:59 PM

Can you please post a pic and any relevant instructions for this? I want this unit but I already have enough "junk" hanging from my windshield (Passport 8500 x50 and a TomTom One). If I can mount this in the ash tray I'm sold.

mdw1000 11-10-2007 11:48 AM

FYI - got this response as to why I was seeing HP numbers as high as 254 for my 4AT...

"The difference is because your engine is rated by the manufacturer for net horsepower. This is the horsepower of the engine minus the accessories (AC, Alternator, water pump, etc.), friction and thermal losses. We supply brake or gross horsepower. Brake is typically 25% higher than net. The readings you are getting look reasonable."

I mounted mine above the steering wheel. No disassembly required, no holes; Simply route and secure the cable; stick down the unit with Velcro.

I've had mine installed on both the ashtray and now most recently on the steering column. The steering column is MUCH easier to read. You dont take your eyes off the road and I think it is a cleaner installation.

Okay ........What do I think about the rear view mirror mount for the scangauge?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Blend...spagenameZWDVW

uhhh , really !

I've got mine on top of my mirror with the supplied Velcro (rip) stuff (Hope that's what you call it in the US) that came with the Scangauge and it works good enough .. So no need for special bracket ....Well my 2 cents worth ...

I just made sure I routed the OBD cord behind the airbag's in Front Window pillar ...

I notice , now that I'm use to the device, I kind of just have it on the same gauges all the time ...only when I drive longer distance will I start looking at it ....

With

mdw1000 11-13-2007 12:28 PM

Yeah, lately I've been using instant MPG, the new horsepower gauge, water temp, and intake temp. Sometimes I'll look at the engine load for awhile, and occasionally the throttle setting.

Interesting to see how much different gross HP can be than the official brake horsepower figure. I've seen as high as 254hp on mine.

Tamas 11-13-2007 12:58 PM

Sometimes I wish the MAP function would work... curious if the Racing Beat cold air duct makes any difference in the incoming air pressure. Probably not too much :)
And yes, the oil temperature would be very useful as well.

mdw1000 11-13-2007 01:01 PM

Found out at the dealer that there is no oil temp sensor in our car. The ATs do have a trans temp sensor, but nobody knows what the codes are to program the scangauge to read it. Tried the Ford CAN codes for this with no luck. I know it is there because the Mazda dealer was able to check it for me with their scanner. But the codes are all internal to their tool, so they have no way to give me the codes.
