Installed mine tonight in about 3 minutes. This has to be the easiest mod ever.
Looks pretty cool sitting above the steering wheel. The stored codes (2) (CEL on) were all P0000 ?? The car is running well with no obvious issues. I was able to clear and the CEL turned off but I'm not sure what's up. Now I have to wait until the test cycle completes. (not ready) I took it out for a spin to try out the standard gauges. EDIT: New code P0037 - search says it's the rear O2 sensor. Just over 47K miles like so many other RX8s. Update: O2 sensor installed Nov 23 and code cleared. I wonder how much I've saved already... |
^ If you look on their website, they have some generic codes you can use to get O2 sensor data now, supposedly for any CAN equipped vehicle, using the xgauge functionality.
See this pdf for the stuff you need: http://scangauge.com/support/pdfs/XGAUGE.pdf |
Wanted to post this in case anybody else noticed it. This is an email I sent to linear logic:
"I've been having a small problem since I got it back. Sometimes the instant MPG gauge reads "9999". While I wish that was the case, I think it is an incorrect reading :) Sometimes it will reset itself momentarily, other times it stays that way for quite a while. I also notice that the horsepower gauge that I added sometimes says "0.0" as well." They responded with the following: "The readings are true. Modern fuel injection systems use every trick to save gas. One trick is to shut off the fuel injection when the engine is being pulled along by the vehicle. This happens when you let off the gas at a high enough RPM during coasting in gear. We added the ability for the ScanGaugeII to detect this "fuel shutoff" condition. You may notice a slight increase in the drag on the car just before you see the 9999 MPG. 9999 is the largest number we can show and it signals no gas is flowing into the engine. You will notice that within a few seconds of stepping on the throttle this will go away. It takes a couple of seconds for the ScanGaugeII to sense this condition starting and stopping. The more you see this happen, the more gas you will save." |
Someone needs to write a program to interface to a PDA....
When I was in the DSM world their was a slick piece of software called pocketlogger. It gave way more functionality than that AIM thing for $160.... It would give full access and logging to parameters. You could display parameters in a variety of ways in realtime...including graphing You could log the parameters and then pull them off to your PC during syncing. EDIT: This OBDII version they have might work. Anyone willing to try it: http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=plobdii_ss (click on screenshots) |

anyone get the xguage function to read the WBO2 sensor?
|
Can you please post a pic and any relevant instructions for this? I want this unit but I already have enough "junk" hanging from my windshield (Passport 8500 x50 and a TomTom One). If I can mount this in the ash tray I'm sold.
|
maybe this thread is of some assistance... i think there is a better one floating around but i didn't find it

FYI - got this response as to why I was seeing HP numbers as high as 254 for my 4AT...
"The difference is because your engine is rated by the manufacturer for net horsepower. This is the horsepower of the engine minus the accessories (AC, Alternator, water pump, etc.), friction and thermal losses. We supply brake or gross horsepower. Brake is typically 25% higher than net. The readings you are getting look reasonable." |
Can you guy spost pics of your mounting location? Did anyone get the rear view mirror mount?

I really want to see some photos of the ash tray install. This really appeals to me.

Here is a thread with a few pics:

Thanks.

Okay ........What do I think about the rear view mirror mount for the scangauge?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Blend...spagenameZWDVW uhhh , really ! I've got mine on top of my mirror with the supplied Velcro (rip) stuff (Hope that's what you call it in the US) that came with the Scangauge and it works good enough .. So no need for special bracket ....Well my 2 cents worth ... I just made sure I routed the OBD cord behind the airbag's in Front Window pillar ... I notice , now that I'm use to the device, I kind of just have it on the same gauges all the time ...only when I drive longer distance will I start looking at it .... With |
Yeah, lately I've been using instant MPG, the new horsepower gauge, water temp, and intake temp. Sometimes I'll look at the engine load for awhile, and occasionally the throttle setting.
Interesting to see how much different gross HP can be than the official brake horsepower figure. I've seen as high as 254hp on mine. |
Sometimes I wish the MAP function would work... curious if the Racing Beat cold air duct makes any difference in the incoming air pressure. Probably not too much :)
And yes, the oil temperature would be very useful as well. |
Found out at the dealer that there is no oil temp sensor in our car. The ATs do have a trans temp sensor, but nobody knows what the codes are to program the scangauge to read it. Tried the Ford CAN codes for this with no luck. I know it is there because the Mazda dealer was able to check it for me with their scanner. But the codes are all internal to their tool, so they have no way to give me the codes.

yeah I got the horsepower one going ... Nogal Cool ! (nogal = kinda) TXD=00, RXF=4000800000000, RXD=0000 MTH=000A00170000, NAM=HPR. Don't forget to SAVE. Are we(RX8) suppose to use the Ford CAN Gauges ...have not tried any ...so maybe some one else can confirm .... But to be honest , can't see why I would need Fuel Pump Width , Duty Cycle etc etc ... hardly know what half of that mean anyway .... :-) With I've tried to do it from the cmnds option of the scangauge but i only see ''memory0'' ''memory1'' etc.. What are those TXD=00 and the other values above?I cant find these options in my scangauge. |
This is for the Scangauge with XGAUGE functionality .......
IF you cant do it with your unit you can send it in for upgrade ...see here : http://www.scangauge.com/support/upgrade.shtml also post 67 mdw1000 With |
