My Tach reads 150 to 200 RPM high @ 3600 RPM.

Fuel injectors get pulsed and the afr remains rather constant... so when the secondary injectors turn on, they turn on progressively and maybe back the primaries off depending on the strategy

its not like bam! they fire wide open and suddenly your burning heaps more fuel....

it's the ports opening you gotta watch out for..

Yes that's true. I forgot the other one I use to have on a lot was LOOP. At a certain RPM and load the ECU switches to open loop and fuel consumption increases. I mapped this against the RPM indication to set up my best efficiency for cruising.

Has anyone had any luck getting a fuel level reading? The FORD CAN numbers didn't work for me.

Some good X-gauges including FRT

Mazurfer 04-14-2008 10:13 PM

Might try this as well, then we can compare. But.....don't hold your breath on this one.

DarkBrew 04-14-2008 11:43 PM

I ran through the calibration routine in the manual.
My cal factor is around 13.7% (after this fix to the idle cutoff setting https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=111)
Now when I refuel the fill amount and the scan gauge agree within a litre and usually within 0.3 litres. I've driven down to less than 5 litres in the tank. (one gallon)

Mazurfer 04-15-2008 06:06 AM

I have to go look, I think I'm at about 13% even.

Stratos_RX8 04-16-2008 03:37 AM

For trip data displayed as gauge values, the TXD values are two digits, as it stated in the manual as well. If you follow the procedure as described should work fine. Good luck.

Oh that explains it. I haven't been using the trip/mpg features. I was looking for a % full value based on whatever the fuel gauge gets the data from..

paulmasoner 04-28-2008 06:46 PM

tonight i will go home and try to get some headway made on some of the other X-gauges.... should know by tomorrow if i'll be able to figure out EGT, Lambda value, etc or not

Don't forget the most important - ATF temp! :)

roger! only thing is, i wonder if its even in there? for some reason i thought i saw someone post that there isnt even a tranny temp sensor on this car? i dunno i have no access to AT's ....

CnnmnSchnpps 04-28-2008 10:28 PM

I believe that comment was made in the context of an MT but don't hold me to that... There might be a sensor on the AT models but good luck tracking down the code..

mdw1000 04-29-2008 10:27 AM

One of the dealer techs confirmed for me that there is a sensor - their scan tool pulls up the ATF temp on this car. I saw him do it on my car, so it is there. Unfortunately, they have no idea what the codes are that their scan tool uses.

I tried the two Ford CAN codes listed in the scangauge pdf for ATF temp with no success.

If you come up with some ideas for the codes, I'll test them out for you!

Thanks!

Excuse the terrible picture quality of the iPhone.

Does anyone know the accurateness of the XGuage that adds the functionality to show the amount fuel left in the tank? Mine showed 14.7g which sounds perfect considering I had just filled up and done nearly almost 20 miles... anyone?

rx8convert22 05-22-2008 05:47 PM

Just started using my scangauge. Had a question about the xgauage. I used the codes for fuel left in tank and the number seems accurate, but when I display it on my gauge screen the three letter name I chose constantly changes to to the word GALLONS and back again. Does this happen to other people? Anyone know if I did something wrong. It is a bit annoying. Thank.

Mazurfer 05-23-2008 08:30 PM

Think I would delete that Xguage and start over.
I'll give it a look tomorrow and see what I can find out.

alz0rz 05-26-2008 06:04 PM

it does the same thing for me.. i thought it was standard just so people know the measurement it was using.

rx8convert22 05-30-2008 09:46 PM

Yep tried deleting it and it still does it. Although the gauge I set up that tells me how many gallons I've used rather than how many I have left does not do this. That is good enough for me. I can subtract that number from 16 if I have to ;)

I cut the little divider between my cigarette lighter and the ash tray and drilled a small hole in the back where the metal ash tray use to be. It fit perfect and keeps the stock look.

thats where the rb gauge pod goes though!

fuel cut detection

so i finally got my unit updated, and now i notice that the scangauge is reporting a 'fuel cut' scenario during engine warm up from a cold start (obviously false because i'm not in vacuum)

i haven't had time to mess around with the cutoff setting (other than to set it as outlined in the manual) - and it seems to be working properly during regular operation.

could it be that it considers an open loop situation to also be a fuel cut?

I haven't taken it to a high load high rpm scenario to see what it does there (<= should also be open loop)

perhaps it is some combination of the two settings (open/closed and tps)...

i wonder what other changes they've made to the fuel consumption algorithms.

also what 'engine size' are you guys running?

9krpmrx8 06-14-2008 07:32 PM

Can everyone post what their operating temp ranges are with the scanguage II? It has been in the high 90's here and I have been running between 194 degrees and 211 degrees f. Thanks.

DarkBrew 06-14-2008 07:43 PM

I've been running as high as 100 C in 35 C weather.
89C up to 100C lately.
84 C in 23 C weather

Jasonawojo 06-14-2008 08:24 PM

170s-207F throughout fall, winter, and spring. Really never went past 207 no matter what I did until a late spring driving clinic I did (234). From then on until I stopped using the unit it would peak in the 210s.

paulmasoner 06-15-2008 12:15 AM

hawaii weather... 80-90 degrees and 50-85% humidity

prior to AccessPORT i ran over 200 almost all the time, ususally around 205-210, easily hitting 215+ in traffic or when abusing te car

after AP, i have a extremely difficult time getting it over 202. avg is 180-190, traffic etc can push me up to mid 190's at best

Well, I do have the Mazsport cooling fan mod, but here's my data:

Outside temps in the mid 90's lately, humidity in Florida is ALWAYS up there at probably over 80% and usually alot higher. With my A/C on and abusing the car or in traffic, I'll stay between high 170's up to about 198 max................but my fans kick on(with the mod) at just about 195 and cools down to 180 pretty quickly.
Just normal driving seems to be right close to 190.

9krpmrx8 06-15-2008 11:54 PM

Okay, so my temps are okay for as hot as it has been. I was thinking it was running a little hot. I will be getting the Masport cooling mod and doing a coolant change soon. Thanks.

Here is where I put mine. I had my radio apart to install the Sylfex Auxmod, so I decided to integrate the ScanGauge at the same time. The faceplate is custom.

I rarely rarely need to press the on/off button. If and when I do, I can still reach it with my pinky finger or a pointed object such as a key.

The buttons just bleed out whatever the LCD backlight is set to. In this case, my white background bleeds blue out of the buttons.

BTW this is how it looks without the faceplate. The fifth button is not blocked.

CnnmnSchnpps 06-18-2008 09:56 PM

nice install... i still like my location the best though :lol2:

yeah, i've had it all apart before when i mounted the JDM start button into that halfmoon piece of piano black. i dunno, i dont really ever use the HOME button either, but i couldnt mount it somewhere that was annoying to reach it if i wanted to. nice job though!

This really makes it usable as a gauge since I just have to glance down without moving my head..

It hides the fuel low idiot light but who needs that anyway...

I know right, the gauge goes so far below E anyways! :lol2:

Is there any way to run the cable under the dash, up under the left a-pillar plastic, and then sticky the scan gauge onto the top left windshield?

foo77 06-22-2008 10:13 PM

the HKS stand work for me :)

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/2...anmountjv5.jpg

Jasonawojo 06-23-2008 06:05 PM

OK here is what I did to mount mine. Took the plastic cover off the left a-pillar, stuck a long cord down the hole that is located where the a-pillar meets the dash with the plastic off for positioning. Ran the Scan Gauge's OBD II cable up through there, taped it along the other wiring that ran up the pillar, and then ran it behind the headliner. I stuck the Scan Gauge to the top center of the windshield, above the rear view mirror where that black dotted stuff is.

It's slanted with the window but still viewable, I just used various pieces of mounting tape to get it angled somewhat better.

rx8dorifto 06-30-2008 04:10 AM

my scangauge is telling me that i got 350 or more HP and mine is NA.

how u guys set it to get correct HP reading? Did u guys set the engine capacity at 1.3L or 2.6?

Mazurfer 06-30-2008 07:26 AM

Historically it doesn't read right....at least I never got mine to do so. I do have it set to 1.3L though. Maybe someone else will chime in, but I've seen many posts that say it's not accurate in terms of HP.
