seems as if i lost a little power
well as the title says i have lost a little power in the rpm band over the last few months... after speaking with someone who is extremely knowledgable we thought that the butterfly(or valve or whatever) was not opening for the last two ports in the intake manifold... any one have any idea how i can test that to see if its opening or not?
the motor is in good shape, great compression, wasnt beat on untill 16,000 miles on it, oil changes when its suppose to, overall a well oil machine...
the diagnosis seems to make sense since it feels like there is plenty of torque (for a rotary) but dies at 5000 rpm...

everytime you turn the ignition the valves get a diagnostic check based on the position feedback... if it determines its stuck you get a CEL
probably a burnt coil is a better bet

I would also say check the coils and spark plugs.
I ran the greddy EMU turbo kit with the intake block for a few months - which blocked off two of the intake ports making me a 4 port, and there was no significant change in the way the car performed.

look , i had a test pipe with a resonator ( home-made ) and i was losing a lot of power in the high rpms- put the stock cat back in and all the power came back - if you have a custom made resonator , you should probably check that

you would get a cel if the ssv valve was not opening or working in the test...
gummed up valves would be a cause.. the second ones might not be opening fully or the third set, same thing.. but i would swap coils and add some 44k and run the crap out of it...
pm me...
beers

sounds about right...clogged cat = CEL. 'butterfly' not opening would cause hard start ups also wouldn't it?
i had this problem with my old car and it was the ignition coils. same with my friends 02 1.8t gti.

the problem occured when i had the cat on the car and its the same since i have swappeed to a mid pipe.... i am going to check the coils this weekend and do the test to see if the butterfly is stuck shut
