Servicing the REVi

I serviced my REVi today with K&N filter cleaner and reoiled it. It was definitely due since is was caked black with dirt and full of minced bug parts. While I was at it I vacuumed the debris out of the housing. I think the Ram Air duct was the major contributor to all the bugs and debris but easily resolved with servicing. Cleaning the filter was straight forward but I didn't think I'd have to pull my strut bar to get it out. It's defintely a monster sized filter.

I thought you had to take the strut off to clean the filter?? Hmm guess not..AEM intakes only have to be cleaned like every 50K or longer on some cases, esp. now that all the intakes come with the dry flow filter....but good luck cleaning it!

cleaning the revi is a lot easier than AEM's CAI.... you have to take off the front bumper to do that....

I opened up my Revi filter box yesterday just to see it's condition after about 10k miles. I also have the Ram Air Duct installed. The filter was as clean as I would have expected - I didn't need to service it and the box itself had only a small amount of sand in the bottom of the box. All in all I was very pleased.

not really, I was told and have seen my friend just unscrew the bottom lip, and pull the filter out, clean it and then put it back on... there are like a few screws to screw back in and your all done....

To clean the filer do you simply disconnect the MAF sensor and take the blue tube thing out and clean it? Even with my Revi sitting in the engine bay I can put my hand underneath it and lift it up some... I have often wondered though since I installed it, is this normal? It has lasted about 6k miles or so and no problems. It is actually worried me a bit that I am considering the MS CAI. I read on one of these threads recently a review on it and he had positive results(loud, easy install)

Disconnect the blue tube from the accordian tube. Unscrew the screws around the blue ring, and pull the filter out. Clean/re-oil the filter. Takes an 45 mins. max. The only long part is waiting for the filter to dry. Which if you're changing fluid, you can do other things while you wait.

Mine sits secure. No give. Did you miss a screw on the back of the air box?

forgot to report back, i cleaned mine last Thursday night, before I head out to VIR for track days.

Mine was FILTHY! The filter was completely covered in soot and dust, you can literally knock some of the dirt out by just tapping on the filter!

once I took the filter out, i took a shop vaccuum and vaccuumed all the pebbles and other crap that's sitting inside intake box.

Racing Beat did a great job making this intake. The intake horn inside the filter element is such a high quality piece, and the whole package is just so near-OEM in terms of fit and finish. Money well spent IMO

I cleaned mine over the weekend. There was some sand in the bottom of the air box and bugs between the filter rows. I did take some time to appy duct tape between the air duct and air box.

I may be retarded... but I can't seem to be able to pull the REVI air filter all the way out! It hits the coils (well, plug wires). Did anyone else run into this?

You need to remove the first two plug wires

it comes straight out if you followed Racing Beat's instructions (remove strut bar, disassemble intake bellow tube and the blue MAF tube and move it away)

I did all the things you mentioned (both maf tube and bellow tube were away).

I can't find the RB instructions and so I was following some instructions folks have posted online...

Do the RB instructions mention removing plug wires? Anyways, looks like I'll have to do that.

The filter looked fairly clean (only 10K on it), so I'm actually going to wait another 5-10K to clean it.

no removing plug wires, once you flip the bellow tube and the MAF tube away, the filter should just come straight out easily with minimal effort.

Here's a photo of what I encountered:

The red circle at the bottom right shows where the filter hits the plug wires--so I can't move it further outward, at least without tilting it up. And I can't tilt it up because the filter is only out so much and hits the top of the box (red oval on the left).

Maybe it's a 2004 vs 2005 difference?

very interesting, i have never encountered either stuck points you showed in your picture, mine literally just pulls right out and hit nothing, well at least not intentionally anyway lol

try pulling out straight, and as you are about to hit the plug wires, tilt it slightly up and towards you (from the angle of the camera), see if that helps
