Setting my sights on mods:

Alrighty -- after a bit of poking around (with the search button) I've built a little list of things I'd like to do to my RX8... yes this is my 1st car ive ever owned 100% and can finally do things to.

Anyways, I'm wondering in what order should I do the following mods:

1) ACT Racing Clutch
2) Racing Beat REV8 Exaust
3) Lightweight Aluminum flywheel.

(still trying to research) 4) highflow cat and midpipe

Since I have your attention on the subject I'm a little fuzzy on the midpipe and cat "mod". People on the board have said that the midpipe and highflow cat are the "most noticable" mods out there, how does this exacly work, is it literally just a fatter pipe and thats it?

In terms of midpipes and high flow cats what brand/model is pretty popular out there? And if anyone has some direct links for me to check out I'd love to see. The only thing that "scares" me about the midpipe and cat is the noise issue, I already know im going to go for a Racing Beat Exaust which has a nice tone to it, but im just worried the midpipe and highflow cat will mess that beautiful tone up and I'll end up with a roaring annoying beast (which is fine if im going all out, but during daily drive I dont want it to sound all crazy)

Thanks
Jeff

well, whatever order you end up doing things in, you will want to do the clutch and flywheel at the same time, as it will save significantly on labor. as to doing the clutch, unless you are planning major horsepower upgrades such as turbo, supercharger, or massive amounts of nitrous, a clutch upgrade is not necessary.

Why would you upgrade the clutch ? Like Lurch said the stock unit is more than adequate if you are doing only non-FI mods. If you are worried about how loud it is then go for the RB Cat back with RP supercat (catalytic acts as a resonator) or for even more sound protection an SR Motorsports unit with hi-flow cat & add another resonator, or Random Technology unit sold by canzoomer (includes an additional resonator on it).

Thanks for the info guys that RP Supercat looks badass when coupled with a RB Exaust.

Anyways, my logic behind upgrading the clutch was because if I stick in the flywheel, might as well do the clutch too right? Would having an ACT clutch make it "alright" to do high-RPM launches (moreso then doing high RPM launches now with the stock clutch)?

I want the benefit of a lightweight flywheel for sure - but it would just suck to have to rip apart my car to install the flywheel by itself and NOT do the clutch later, I would love to go turbo but that wouldnt happen for at least another 6 months or a year.

The high flow cat will give you gains because of the way they design it. Going catless might get you a bit more power, at the expense of more noise.
