So I removed my K&N Typhoon II

I had heard they can actually hurt your power. I wanted to see what kind of air induction force I was getting without it. I was checking on my CarPC and during heavy acceleration I was getting between 12-15 lbs of pressure measured by the MAF. After putting the stock back on, I peaked at around 20lbs of pressure.

Not only is the air hotter, but the pressure was better with the stock....really total BS imo. I'll do the community a favor and NOT resell this POS K&N.

I definitely felt better pull with my car afterwards too, so it was more of a downgrade. Guess I need to look at a CAI instead of short ram.

Any comments, suggestions? My next mod WILL be a high flow CAT, but I won't do a CAT delete. I want to keep it legal.

Yeah most intakes are just for sound. Really no usable HP. I've seen stock cars dyno with the same HP as 8' with Intakes of different brands.

9k: not necessarily.
some intakes can definitely help deliver more (colder) air which CAN help the engine and produce added performance.

I would suggest:
Racing Beat + Duct
AEM / Mazdaspeed

I would just put the RB duct on the stock intake and call it a day.

Well its such and insignificant gain that it does not relate to faster times on a track.

on K&N Version 2, the MAF location is wrong, I think they did it on purpose tho. that way it can trick the ECU into thinking its getting less air, less air = less fuel. but the truth is its getting more air than stock (it does), so the mixture will be lean.

this trick only works in open-looped tho, when its closed-loop mode. its useless.
