Question Sound of stock exhaust + RP supercat

After doing some research I am now seriously considering ordering the RP supercat.

Does anyone have a video/sound bite of how the exhaust sounds with the RP supercat and the stock exhaust?

I have searched this site and found many videos of cars with the RP supercat installed, however all of them also had an after market exhaust installed.
My main concern is that under hard acceleration car will sound like a "badly riced civic" / "thin bee buzzing sound".

I have the stock exhaust and a revi + ram air (which makes the exhaust note a bit louder than stock). I was in the same boat, but I said "F it" and went for it. Not the RP, though.

The best I can do is post a clip and my impressions once I get my hi flow from rx8store. Again, it's not the RP, but it's better than the high flows + aftermarket exhaust examples.

According to UPS, it will be here tomorrow.

I am going away from tomorrow night until monday. If I don't get it on tomorrow, Tuesday for sure. I'll see what I can do about before and after sound clips too.

Thanx man. I am also going to add a K&N drop in. Later on perhaps a RAM Ram Air Duct. I am not sure if that will effect the sound of my exhuast + RP supercat. What kind of highflow cat did you get?

RX8 store. You can read up on it here --> https://www.rx8club.com/rx8store-62/midpipe-highflo-cat-pricing-80014/

I couldn't pass up the price.

Oh, and intakes effect the exhaust note too. I'm not sure if the the noise from the K&N will be noticable or drown out the exhaust/engine note, but with the Revi at WOT you can't hear the "sucking" sound of the intake so much as the increased engine/exhaust noise.

Don't know about the K&N drop in.

I'll see what I can do about getting it done tomorrow.

I have stock exhaust with RP supercat. I too was concerned about the sound but I think it sounds great. And no it is not loud. It is a little louder than stock when pushing it, but cruising I doubt you notice much. I love this mod and reccomend it highly. I can try to get a clip for you but it will take some time.

i have that combo... sounds good except between 4-5k when it sounds like a buzzy civic

right click and save as this sound clip ... I should add it doesn't backfire as badly now that its broken in.

(forgive the sound quality - i used my cell phone to record it)

I have the rp supercat with the stock catback. I was worried that it would be loud, but it is suprisingly quiet. The wife didnt even notice a difference. My revi intake made a much bigger difference in noise level than the supercat

I definitely noticed a difference in power. I thought it might be just wishful thinking, but after racing the same guys at the track I confirmed that the car is definitely faster now.

Thank you all for the help.

rOtor:

Thanx allot, it sound surprisingly good, obviously not as deep as the RP+RB catback combo, but it seems that my fear of "angry bees" was unfounded.

Does it sound deeper when you are accelerating hard?

If anyone has a hard time posting a sound/video on the site, you can just send it to me via email. I know nothing about computers so maybe there is no real difference.

P.S. RP has modified there supercat since the original design for better flow and they are currently in the process of adding hanger. So perhaps the sound will be different.

I have the Revi, ram, RP Supercat and stock exhaust. It sounds fine, it was lound at first but now it seemed to settle to a nice "indy" car sound. I did not weld on the hanger and it is only a little loud before it warms up.

Good to know they are adding the hanger, didn't want to steal the hanger from the stock cat.

Anyone know if I order one now will it have a hanger? or should I wait a bit longer for this "updated design"??

I just ordered a box of OE-style stainless hangers for a custom exhaust project. I'll have a some leftover and can offer them for sale if you like:

I can let you know in a day or two... I ordered one on Friday. I'll take some pics and post for comparison to the 'original' unit.

It sounds just like a motor scooter. For those of us that went to the Auto Rnd meet here in CA, they know what I'm talking about. It was actually quite funny. I wouldn't recommend it though.

long term that has yet to be determined, of course as heavy as most exhaust parts are being made for this car you may be right, otherwise you could end up cracking an unsupported pipe in time

Just for info RP+stock has a good sound not too loud.

RP+JIC TI-exhaust = louder than !@#$!! I mean angry bumble bees on steroids.

I just put the stock cat back on. Now I have mildly irritated bumble bees.

surprised to hear that since my GF's JIC titanium exhaust isn't much louder than the factory exhaust

I think so, I don't see how it could much louder than the OE muffler even with an RP Supercat
