Doesn't seem like the packing burned out. With the stock cat pipe back in it is very subtle and much closer to stock.

Maybe it just the RP - JIC combo. Or maybe there was a leak I didn't find.

Just added the Tanabe Hyper Medallion exhaust to my RP supercat. At idle it is louder, but not too much. Cruising it is barely noticeable. Get on the gas and it roars.

As for the RP supercat, I have a hanger welded onto mine. It was hitting the undercarriage cross bar when I went over bumps.

^^ That is about the same with the JIC and RP supercat. Nice at idle. Easy at cruising speeds. But when you get on it watch out.

I have the rx7store HF Cat pipe 3" with the stock exhaust. It has the magnaflow cat on it which is about 7 inches only in length. Anyways, at first I hated the sound coz it sounded like a scooter. At idle, it's no different to stock. At cruising (3 - 4K RPM) or light load, it sounds strong like the RB exhaust but throatier. Anything above 5K RPM and high load is high-pitched and throaty. Yeah, kinda ricey but at low volume. It's not too loud.

the pipe hanger calcs i did before i bought it showed it wasn't needed since the weight was cut in half... but you never know

I received the new design today... no hanger but updated cat unit. Pics are on this thread:

A 10 pound pipe doesn't need a hanger.

it's not just ten pound pipe, without the middle hanger a large amount of the exhaust is then only hung at the exhaust manifold and rear diff hangers, which is about the wheelbase length, that's a very long length of exhaust piping for only two hangers, some people have reported the pipes hitting the chassis underbraces over bumps without the hanger, no surprise ...

^^^
What I've been saying. My RP cat absolutely had to have a hanger welded on.

I dunno about you, but even removing the stock pipe was so hard to nudge off the connections. I only took out the hanger for the stock pipe and pushed it as hard as I could to disconnect the thing. It took me many tries until I finally nudged it off to the side. I can't imagine any natural movement of the car that could cause the connections to even move a bit.

no, I had picked up a used one and then sold it, the original owner had already installed a hanger on it

I'm planning on building an entire system; emissions legal manifold with 3" outlet, full 3" midpipe with hi-flow cat, two inline Burns Stainless 3" straight-thru mufflers, and an Apexi 80mm exhaust control valve in case I get into a noise compliance situation

I'm in the metal fab business and work extensively with stainless tubing. You'd be surpised how much the system moves just from the heat buildup during extended WOT use. I had 2" clearance from my turndown to the valance and it still managed to push out and melt a 1" deep u-shape into it. You're talking about a thin-wall tube the length of the wheel base, about 8 ft long or so with a non-rigid connector in it. Everytime you go over a bump, hit a depression, etc. that pipe is bending and flexing if even only a small amount. Add heat to the equation and it exacerbates the situation a lot; materials soften and get weaker. Which BTW T304 stainless is not a good rotary exhaust material because it weakens at high temperature. You can get around that by using thicker wall, etc.

Wll it break and when? I can't say, maybe never. I just don't see why RP would mak that compromise given the fact that it's inexpensive and the hanger attachment point is already there. I wouldn't put my name on a street production part that didn't have it in place, but that's me.

wouldn't that be over kill for an N/A. I think you'd lose low end torque going that big. Unless you got the turbo itch

that might be true in an engine that that has port timing overlap, which the factory Renesis doesn't have. There's a new game in town.

You might want to review the TurboXS exhaust thread and the general concept has already been proven in the Astra Racing Cup cars which are dynoing 270 emission legal hp at the flywheel, mine's a bit different from theirs so we'll see ...

I just paired an RP supercat with my JIC Ti and it is really loud. With the stock cat the JIC isn't that loud at all. With the RP its .... bees on steroids. I might check into a resonator.
