Which sounds better: Turbo XS or HKS Hi-Power

I am going to be buying an exhaust very soon and have narrowed it down to two for price/performance. I have never heard either one of these exhausts in person though, only on videos. So for those of you who have heard BOTH of these in PERSON, NOT on video, which one do you think sounds better? Thanks.

Hi-power:

I would take the turboxs over hi-power.

I would get the turboxs and a cc insert.

you can get the turboxs with midpipe for $400. so hi-power is more costly to get to the same place. plus hi-power has only one exhaust and one small muffler can.. I would only recommend it if you like being really loud.

So the Turbo XS is actually quieter in person than the Hi Power mysql?

they are both loud, but the turboxs sounds deeper and less raspy. I think it's because the hi power muffler is so small.

so to me the hi power sounds like a rice mobile, but a lot of people here seem to think it sounds amazing and not rice at all. So a matter of opinion.

my vote goes to the hi-power, its a quality piece and its very loud when using most available midpipes on the market...once i combined it with the mazsport mid-pipe what a world of a difference in sound my neighbor that is a cop even was really impressed with the sound difference

See that is why I need the opinion of someone that has heard both in person. Because the turbo xs sounds more raspy to me in the video clips than the hi power. But how is the drone on both of these?

Any negative word you can think up to describe an exhaust, I would say the hi power has more of.

I've owned a half dozen rx-8 exhausts and the hi-power is the only one I got rid of within the first 30 days.

the turboxs isn't without it's own flaws. The exhaust tips are too short, and the piping hangs low. But I much prefer it over hi-power.

I plan on getting the TurboXS sometime in the near future. For the price and from what I have read everyone seems to be happy with them.

Thanks for the links to the videos, but it doesn't really help me much since I cannot hear what it sounds like in person and it's always different than what the video sounds like since most video camera's sound quality is ****.

all the hks hi-power guys will come on here and say it's k-rad.

unless they have also owned the turboxs, ignore them.

btw, I've owned hks legamax, hks hi-power, borla, turboxs, plus stuff like b&b midpipe, turboxs midpipe and multiple combinations thereof along with add on silencers.

that doesn't make me an expert, but I have used them on my car for extended periods of time, in NA and turbo forms.

the hi-power + catless midpipe video above does sound accurate. you can't tell how loud it is, but you can tell how 'hollow' it sounds. I'd rather stock catback + catless midpipe over it.

Well I've heard the Turbo XS in person and it sounded awesome to me but it was also on a turbo'd 8 so I'm not sure how it would sound NA. In the majority of the videos it always sounds very raspy when revved up compared to Hi-Power. But like I was saying, most video cameras cannot record sound very well so a lot of the lower tones are missing.

I was origionally going to buy the Borla but I heard that in person and was kind of diassapointed in it's sound on the 8. It sounded very tame for a Borla exhaust system and almost a little too deep.

I have also heard the Agency Power exhaust on a turbo'd 8 and that exhaust was waaaaaay too loud and raspy. Did not like it at all.

I guess I really just need to wait until I hear both exhaust on an NA car in person t make my decision. :-(

Any exhaust will be louder na than turbo.

Without the cc insert muffler I would not use the turboxs na anymore than the hi power.

Exhausts are funny. Borla sounds great with the stock cat. With a catless midpipe it goes to hell. Hks legamax sounds great catless and with stock cat. But then it's a 2.5" exhaust. So I've found all systems I've owned having some drawbacks.

Not buying till you hear it in person sounds smart. It sucks to drop $600 on something you might hate immediately.

I just Installed the Hi-Power last week and I have to say that it does sound good to me but it is a little noisy inside the car when you are just cruising on the Interstate, but I always have my radio up so it doesnt bother me,, Just my opinion, I havent had any other exhaust, but I like the single side look, and its different.. Let me know if you are going to buy this and I will let you know where I got it.. It was the cheapest place to buy it..

Dude, it's so k-rad!

My opinion doesn't count anyway. I have only had the HKS attached to a resonated RP supercat and turbo. Mine is quieter than Mysql's ever was.

Hmm..

I've owned the HKS Hi-Power with Stock cat and stock headers for a couple days now. I LOVE it. I think the sound is excellent and not ricey at all..again..my opinion. But then again, everyone that was at all the install meet also agree'd with me. I could cruise in 3rd going about 40 and barely hear the exhaust. Tips look real hot...easy to install..And I personally dig the single exhaust look.

My friend has the Turbo XS exhaust with a "test pipe" as he calls it and OBX headers. Me and my friends agree, it is TOO loud. In my opinion..it SCREAMS rice. VERY raspy, very farty and just too obnoxious. Again, he has the mid pipe with the headers, but he claims it will sound good and quiet down once he gets a turbo. I don't know the story.. but personally.. I'm for HKS all the way. I'm uploading my clips to my blog shortly..should be up tomorrow if you want to wait. Full pics and vid clip with in car sound.
