Spectre
Has anyone tried building an intake using part from speed by spectre? A friend of mine showed me the parts at an auto store the other day, and its seems like it would be cheaper than buying a prebuilt one.
And since the gains on prebuilt ones are negligible, maybe I could pull of the same thing with a custom one for less money. Thanks in advance.

those cheap auto store intake parts will not fit your rx8. the mass air sensor is extremely sensetive to the given value of the inside diameter of the intake tube. that is how it meassures the given value of air traveling into the engine. i can't remember the ID that our mass air sensor needs but the ones you will find and the parts store will be smaller. most of the Honda **** that they sell in those stores is just that. crap for the kids to go in and blow the $40 that they made that week on and still have the shinny pipe that all the rich kids have.
then again you could go to SR motorsports and spend $300 for just a straight piece of pipe.or for the same money get a MS or AEM.

just the straight drop-in element seems like a promising replacement...
had one for my dad's 350Z, and instead of a cheap $8 replacement, it seemed worth the extra money...
but of course, i based it comparing to my cotton gauze K&N drop-in... quality looks decent.
I, of course wouldn't build a cheap cone filter of any sort. but thats just me.
