It really just suprises me. I mean I could understand my Sprint springs being off since they are a lower end company, but come one, MAZDASPEED. ( I wonder who makes them for Mazdaspeed )
what gets me is did I just get a bogus set, or are ALL MAZDASPEEDs this way? (which makes me wonder how in the world they got those number???)

.... I wonder where the hell I got thos numbers that are on the first post??? I have always heard about how the Mazdaspeeds are supposed to be real stiff, and the numbers on the first post show that. But again, I wonder where I got those figures.
Thats funny Eibach makes them. Eibach is here in California. but the springs had to come from Japan. (I was waiting a month for them to come in on the ship). so does that mean Eibach shipped them to Mazda in Japan, just so Mazda can then ship them back to the U.S. to Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, so they can ship them to me?

what were your ratings on the stock springs Speed?....Guess we're not installing MS springs on your car this weekend then, huh? WTF is right. I wonder what my spring rates are on my MSset.

Certainly news to me! I took the numbers on the MS springs off of the forum a long time ago, and had no reason to think them inaccurate. As the post says: "All numbers taken either from the manufacturer, or from other posts on this forum. Some we can verify, and a few we can't". The MS springs are one of the ones we didn't/couldn't verify, and it sounds like perhaps we should have? I do wonder where those numbers came from in the first place, since it's looking like they're not even close.
I'll update my post accordingly, and I apologize if anyone took our numbers as the gospel. I'll also put a notation on the other spring rates that we have on there that I cannot verify with the manufacturer. Nice catch speeddemon; do see if you can get a second set to verify your numbers too. I can't see them making one 'bad' set that is THAT far off, but stranger things have happened.
Also, is it confirmed that Eibach makes them? For some reason I was thinking it specifically wasn't Eibach, but I have no factual information to back that up at the moment. I'll see what I can find out.

Phil

IT's not your fault DPE (Phil).
This is why manafactures should give the rates. as you said they do not tell you what the rates are... they just say "stiffer". (which the rears are SOFTER)
I Think I might just have to go with the Tein S Techs from you. (if I dont stick with my Sprints)

I just got off the phone with Mazdaspeed, they iwll return the springs, but there is one concern. I wrothe the spring rate on the inside lid of the box (like an idiot) and I should have wrote them down on a seperate paper. he said if they deem the parts unsalable they will simply throw the parts away and I will loose the springs and no refund. they will not even ship them back to me.
so I either risk loosing everything to try to get my money back. or I try to sell them.
I think I will try to sell them first....
SO who wants a set of Mazdaspeed springs???? great lowering springs with a factory like ride. $215 shipped

he he... true!
and of course it with a black sharpie. only thing worse would have been to do it on the outside of the box. :/

yeah.. ive had my suspicions when i noticed how much softer keiths car was compared to mine. but since all i did was push down on the front and rear of the car, i figuered that it wasnt the best way of testing spring rates and didnt say anything.
i guess it doesnt really matter though. ive noticed that keiths car handles EXTREMELY well reguardless of spring rates. its more neutral, predictable and progressive then my stiffer and lower voughtland settup. also, didnt jason really like keiths car as well? if spring rates between MS and stock are almost the same, there shouldnt be that big of a difference between KONI + stock springs and MS sturts and springs. also arent keiths MS sways almost same as stock (15% stiffer)? the only other difference is that the MS drops the car about an inch. that shouldnt do much though. interesting...

^^^, yeah, more Camber available (which he is not using) and a lower center of gravity. but really it does not lower the car all THAT much. but I guess every little bit helps.
Supprising the rears are softer then the factory ones though. at least the front is a little stiffer. They make for good Drage race springs.

isn't it interesting to take the new info that you have about your MS springs...when you compare them to the info we have listed for the Eibach springs.
Eibach Pro
Front drop 1.2"
Front rate 180 lb Progressive
Rear Drop 1.2"
Rear rate 130 lb Progressive
$230
http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/eibachrx8.htm
or
http://www.modacar.com/products/Mazd...+Pro+Kit+.html
MS made by Eibach....Would be interesting to put a picture of a MS and Eibach spring side by side. Eibach is progressive, but has a similar spring rate.
Then again, the MS cold air intake is made by AEM.
I'm very dissapointed if this turns out to be true...I will be much happier to know that you just got a bad batch. But then again, this may make me take the springs off my car to see what spring rates I have.......

yeah but the MS springs were softer then that in the rear.... I was pulling 100 pounds at most.
the MS springs are progressive also. (just an FYI) which needs to be updated on the first post.

he he... thats funny. when I was talking to Michelle last night about them she asked why people say they are so much stiffer. I said the same thing. Its the Placebo effect. you think they are stiffer, you make yourself feel the car stiffer. you think the intake adds power, you make yourself feel the car faster.
This is why Dyno's are AWSOME... they dont lie. (engine dyno, spring dyno, shock dyno.... ect.) (of course with that said, nothing beats real world and track testing)

I think this info would shock the RX8 community. I say you post a separate thread with this info....or, wait until you get the second set and then, based upon the results from testing that set...post up a thread.
People, maybe because of threads like this, are under the impression that MS springs are one fo the stiffest options....but this new information would drastically change my decision if I was trying to decide on a set now.

keep in mind Mazda did not say that the springs were so stiff. those numbers came from this web site. we really cant blame Mazda for our mistake....
Dissapointing yes, but cant take that out on Mazda.
(though I still wonder why bother?... I guess for the drop, and the little bit stiffer fronts.)
