Straight Pipe Exhaust?

I did a search, and couldn't really find much to help me out, has anyone straight piped their RX-8? I'm not into seriously modding the car, she is showroom stock right now and I want a little more "oomph" out of the exhaust note. Also, how will this affect my warranty? Thanks guys.

it's been done.
it's ridiculously loud
it will void your engine warranty if Mazda sees it.

Could also melt your bumper if it throws flames. May cause a CEL, which means you won't pass inspection.

get cobb accesport and have him delete that cel when he tunes it and as for the bumper it wont melt if done properly and you can always get replacements for just the sides when/if you plan on trading the car. keep your stock cat and exhaust and switch them in for emissions and put the stock tune on through your accessport. then after you pass put the other exhaust back on. if you're looking for cheap and still good sounding either look into the ebay exhausts or race roots dual or single exhaust plus the rb or bhr midpipe for no rasp.

i ordered the race roots single and plan on gettin an rb or bhr midpipe, but thats just me, i dont mind the look of a single.

good luck,
Dave

yes i have straight pipe only thing in line is the turbo and also have open wastegate dump. it is super loud and most people hate it. I had to do some mods to reduce noise in the cab area or i would have hated it. Still is loud depending on load and rpm.

yes the heat from some exhaust tips can melt the exhaust shrouds. Mine just leaves black soot all over the bumper

why the bhr over the rb? bhr is really expensive compared to the rb

Fair to say that BHR has a dedicated following based on making quality product and backing it up.
You can buy a less expensive product from many places and many are good.
You'll have to make a value judgement

I tried a straight mid pipe with a Racing Beat REV8 cat back and that was too loud for me... Full straight exhaust would be crazy loud and would attract way too much attention.

It sounds like ***, trust me. Lol. Hey I had to see for myself. Hahaha.

Which is funny, because one of the best mods I made to my GT500 was a muffler delete. Saved ~40-ish lbs AND the sound gives me a semi-chub. Lmfao.

I have a BHR midpipe with an HKS HI-Power and it is almost obnoxiously loud but sweet. I can't imagine going with nothing to quiet it down.

hell even the TurboXS with their standard racepipe is obnoxiously loud. The BHR midpipe quieted it down nicely.

i never thought it would be so loud until (me bored) just disconnected the muffler to see how it sounded for like 1 lap (OEM exhaust/cat) on load 5krpm+ sounded like a F1 in the cab, but annoying as hell!

True story.

In high school a Chevelle owner always cut down a RX3, one day they argued over who was louder "uncapped"....

The Chevelle went first, 396/4 barrel/headers/6000rpm; loud.

Then the RX3 went to 12500 rpm....
People ran away screaming.
The principal of the school heard it from the other side of the school.
The police arrived within minutes, they had gotten several reports of a jet engine/plane crash.

Thanks for all the responses guys, would it still be horrific if I kept the cat, or maybe even got a high-flow cat, and then straight piped it from there back? Naturally the catalytic converter is going to quiet it down significantly, but will it still be obnoxious or maybe comparable to a very loud aftermarket?

I'm in the high-flow-cat with REV8-cat-back camp... LOVE the sound !!
The high flow cat does cut the rasp a bit and the REV8 cuts the high frequencies and rasp a bit more.
I never tried using just the high flow cat so I can't comment.
