Super stupid question: Why does our header have 3 runners (primary pipes)?

As the title says...

I know the 8 have the 13B-MSP engine (aka RENESIS), I also know it's a birotor.

What I don't understant is why the headers I saw here and there (I put the beautifull AutoExe one here as an example) have 3 runners... I mean, 2 rotors, 2 runners no?

Thanks for the replys... and I know i'm stupid.

So the Front & Rear Rotor both expell into on runner on the header?

Just the middle one, its for a more efficient evacuation of the rotors during the exhaust phase. I believe testing has shown that the middle one produces more heat than the other two, probably safe to say that it flows a bit more also.

because we have 3 exhaust ports ?

Think of a sandwich, 3 piece of bread, 2 pieces of meat.

B = Bread , M = Meat

B - M - B - M - B

Think of the Bread in the middle, compare to the other 2 pieces, the middle piece will absorb more meat juice than the other.

This is how the exhaust port looks like.

E = Exhaust , R = Rotor (or you can say Exhaust = housing, but lets keep it simple)

E - R - E - R - E

Same idea.

if only that header didn't cost an arm, leg, and your first born child... i mean i'll happily give them my first born child, but missing an arm and a leg would severly limit my driving pleasure.

WTF is your problem?

I did a research here (I admit I didn't write it in my first post), found nothing valuable, I did a research on the NET (Wiki, Mazsport, etc), and I found nothing good enough.

I wanted a technical answer and I got it: The middle port is a siamese one.

Now go back to your "non-typing-mode", you will do everybody a favor here.

What's the problem with it? People actually answered the guy's question. That's the way it's supposed to be. He didn't know and that's OK. We're supposed to be here to help. Not everyone knows everything. It only turned to crap with your post which is not the way it's supposed to be. Contribute or don't post. It's really a simple concept.

they have three pipes because most people still haven't figured out that this kind of header doesn't accomplish anything on a Renesis that can't be gotten out of a log manifold

What he really wanted to know wasn't why the header had 3 pipes as much as he wanted to know why does the engine have 3 exhaust ports and not 4.

I still like nycgps's Big Mac analogy.

Actually, given the rotary's centrifugal exhaust stream, the takeoffs are more efficient than a log type.

hahaha, I guess I did start some chit...

I learned from howstuffworks.com why there are 3 exhaust ports, that was before I owned an Rx-8... Not trying to hate, just being the middle grounds between those that say "you dumb" and those that simply answer...

Edit: Also, seems since I've iconed myself to be the "**** starter" a lot less **** has been thrown around... Yay! Exactly what I originally wanted... I've iconed myself to be the opposite! Pwn the system!
