Supertrapp Mufflers

Back in the 80's, I used to autocross with a group of RX7 owners that used Supertrapp mufflers on their cars. Has anyone thought about making single or duel Supertrapp muffler setup for their RX8?

Supertraps on an RX-8? uh... eww...

On a 1960's muscle car... cool.

On a 2006 Mustang GT... eww...

They don't look so hot on modern cars.

Hmm, I always saw them more on late-model vehicles more than classic cars. Actually come to think of it, I haven't seen them on any car in a good while. I always thought they sounded good, at least on 5.0 mustangs.

I had the same question about using them on the RX-8 but I think RG said they weren't very good for rotaries, I'm not sure why. The weight, cost, tuneability does look nice though...in theory. Just out of curiosity, how did those 7's sound? Throaty/mellow or raspy/farty?

If I remember correctly more in the raspy/farty catagory. I was thinking that they are of a megaphone shape and that should extract the exhaust better than the more conventional mufflers. And the fact that you can control volume of the exhaust would be good also.

They don't flow all that well. By the time you get one to flow good enough to actually make decent power, you have so many discs on it that it isn't muffling very well. The other way to make them work good is to take off the end cap altogether but then they aren't much of a muffler anymore. I personally don't like the way they look but that's just me. Stick with a more conventional muffler and you'll be more happy.
