Titanium exhuast rusting?

Well, I have been researching exhausts and finally got it down to the jic full ti system. I wasn't going to purchase new, but rather wait for a used one to go on sale somewhere. I found the sound clip (https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ight=jic+sound) and multiple other threads discussing the unit. I was confident until I came upon this one - (https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...=titanium+rust) On the second page, takahashi says that he was told the exhaust will rust thus causing the sound/looks to deteriorate in 2-3 years. I was wondering, how large of a problem is rust for titanium exhaust systems? Bah, I finally found an exhaust that I liked - light weight, love the looks, not too loud/love the sound and of course there's a catch...

Anyways, just comment on the topic of ti exhausts rusting. Oh, and any exhaust suggestions are welcome

actually the reason why it corrode is because the intro of Aluminium(cost evective if they even do that) . Aircraft have Ti not just because strong and light, but also because it is a non-corrosive material. The reason why other metals rust is because they have Iron. Ti doesn't have a meassurable amount. The only way it will corrode is if you put it under harsh condition (ie acid bath).

Haha, no, I was just saying that for anyone else possibly interested in the product and to show that I searched. It would be very hard to tell truly how loud an exhaust is over the internet due to one greratly varying factor - volume (microphone when recording, output speakers). Not only that but compression eats away at quality. I'm aware the only true way to get a feel for the sound is by hearing it in person (which I have :D) It would be extremely hard to drop that kind of money on a product with just stuff read over the internet. Words mean nothing, the proof is in the pudding. Hell, I'm even sketchy about buying some things on ebay :p

Heh, thanks for the help guys.

I think the confusion is that you think the exhaust is made of Titanium....well it is not:

http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/jicexhaustrx8.htm

JIC Magic of Japan now has this new fashionable and power producing exhaust for your Mazda RX8. The exhaust is available in full stainless steel and includes dual 3 inch tips. Producing about 12 wheel horsepower, the exhaust adds a great rumble to your Mazda RX8. The exhaust bolts on after the catback to stay emissions safe and comes with all hardware needed for installation.

It is stainless steel.... it's name only says Titanium. It would be like buying the "Gold Package" on a Honda Accord..you still get a Honda Accord but it still does not contain any real Gold.

Well, I don't know about the JIC exhaust, but real titanium exhausts (like mine ) do not corrode, and even if they do, they surely corrode muuuuuuuuch slower than any SS one.....

So your corrosion problem will be much more severe if you buy a SS exhaust than with ANY Ti exhaust.....

I have friend that actually lost power with his JIC Ti exhuast. I guess the exhaust makes up for the lost power by being so light. But I don't think it makes up 5hp worth of power it can cause you to lose.

That's incorrect. I have this exhaust. It is full titanium. Weighs 18 lbs. (vs. 39 lbs. for stock Mazda exhaust). They make several versions of it.

1 is full stainless steel :

1 is stainless steel with titanium tips :

1 is full titanium (the one you showed):
