Question Transmission

my second gear grinds when im racing so i got to take it easy in second, but thats not why im writing this. since my second gear grinds i want to have professionals take out the transmission and beef it up with aftermarket transmission parts. i have absolutly no knowledge when it comes to transmissions. If anybody can tell me what parts to buy, or which ones are the best out on the market, so that my transmission can manage more horsepower and so that i loose less of the power from the motr through the tranmission. Basically to wrap this up if you can help me by telling me what kind of parts are out there or what kind of parts i should purchase i would be very pleases. thanks a lot fellow rx8'ers

i dont think your griding when shifting to second because of your transmission. i think its more because your not pushing your clutch all the way in wards when TRYING to shift as quickly as possible. you should try getting the afe short shifter. ONE OF THE BEST MODS YOU CAN GET FOR YOUR CAR. you can feel it right away and it does help out when shifting in the higher rpms.

Is this really true? What is so great about it. I am ready to order the rp supercat, do you think I should go with the afe short shifter instead?

i dont own either but the supercat should free up a few ponies while i do agree with the other guy about the shifter being the best mod for your car, the shifter will make shifting alot more easier in hard driving n more fun.

I do own an AFE short shifter and I have to agree, it is the best mod I have made to my car. Not only is shifting easier and more precise, it is easier to hit gears at high rpm. I would do it first.

The AFE shifter is noticed all the time when driving the supercat is noticed in the higher RPMs. Go with the shifter man!

I have the shifter and a high flow cat and I would definitly do the shifter first again.

I had the very same delimna, and I ended up going for the AFE shifter. It's relatively cheap, very easy to install, and is noticable all the time.

Oh, and you will be able to "feel" what your tranny is doing better with the afe installed, this will help you and your tranny.

Just make sure to bleed the clutch after installing it. The bleeder is behind the oil filter .

to quote MazdaSpeed Motorsports "It's just a weak trans"

contact AWR Racing (760) 598-9782

they developed a number of tweaks and fixes in conjunction with MazdaSpeed. Won't be cheap though. Expect around $3000 + parts.

no shifting with the clutch isnt a problem, because i do know how to shift. I cant go past 4thousand rpms without grinding shifting into second gear. i think its my synchro because thats what all my friends say, and all my other gears are allways fine. I want to know what new parts to buy to fix this problem if you know then plz tell me. ITS DEFINITLY NOT MY SHIFTING just wanted to make that clear.

thanks a lot

i had grinding from 3rd-4th and ignored it for a while because my 8 only has 11,000miles on it. i finally took it in to mazda and turns out it was more than a short shift kit could fix. im without my 8 for two week because they have to replace the entire transmission!!!
