Transmission Upgrades

I did a small search, and came up empty handed..

I was wondering..all of you who are having transmission troubles (gears going out, syncros, etc, I'm still on my first *crosses fingers*) what are you doing to counter this issue?

Upgraded gears? Beefier syncros? If mine does ever go out, I won't be happy with a run-of-the-mill rebuild, or new transmission. I'd like something a bit more..bullet-proof?

Ideas?

The failure in mine was a faulty bearing. The bearing cracked and there was a major failure and I could not go past 2.5k-3k rpms without a horrible noise, I drove to the dealership in 1st 4th and 6th (they made less noise for whatever reason). It took the dealership I think it took 29 days to replace it. They even had some other Mazda techs sent out to examine the tranny. So far so good tho. If mine goes out again I would definitely be interested in a stronger unit....

Well see...I will be out of warranty in about 20,000 miles, and I'll want to start doing some major upgrades, probably. I decided to part out my RX7, and put all my money into the RX8 instead.

29 days?! I could drop + replace a transmission in a few hours, if that!

if you have to wait for your warranty to run out first then you can't afford any upgrades

Eh? I don't "have" to wait for my warranty to run out, but it's all the more incentive to do major upgrades, that would previously have been looked down upon by the good ole Mazda techs.

No, I don't have a huge sum of money, but what does that matter? Does everyone on here, looking to do some mods, have to be extremely rich? I simply love the inspiration you give our community with your car, but you don't make sense, sir.

29 days is mazda policy in action. they want us to pull the trans apart and rebuild it. the only trouble is, it being mazda they stock the complete transmission assemblies but the internal parts are sketchy, and expensive. the last two we rebuilt (for 20something days) the parts bill was more than the complete assembly, which i think is about a 4 hour job...

so thats mazda policy on a manual transmission, once in a while the bill is smaller doing it that way, but i bet statistically it doesnt work out

Are they the only people that will sell transmission pieces>

$3000 seems like quite a bit for a few pieces. Are you talking about a full beef-up rebuild? I'm thinking more along the lines of..buy the parts, install myself..
