turbo kits(sts kit)
Hey guys, I know I'm new to the fourm but i've been investigating on turbo charging a 8. I know that theres the esmeril kit and I've heard that thats a good way to go but at roughly 6 grand, I think thats a pretty steep price. I know that you get what you pay for in the auto world but, have you guys have heard of Squiers turbos systems? Do you think that could be a good kit? My brother-inlaw has a sts turbo Ls1 Trans am and thats put him over 550 at the wheels and 700 at the crank on 15psi ( its an automatic thats why theres the big loss from the flywheel). I do know that these rotory engines especially the 13b wont make over 450 at the wheels, but do you think the sts kit will be good for a 300whp goal? plus I think the twin tubro kit with the quad exhaust would look nasty on a 8. The only issue i have with it is that the tune for the car... being a universal kit, it wont be specifically made for the 8 and I'm pretty sure that could make some problems. Inputs?

They can make over 450 to the wheels. You can't really negotiate the cost of power when it comes to this car. The energy that you use to try to find a way to save money might be better used finding ways to make more.

I'm not trying to negotiate the price for performance I'm opening my options, the sts kits are amazing from my experince and its 4 grand to do the kit and I know there 900hp capable, so they have to be well built, so asking for 300 outa the kit isnt far fetched, I'm just worried that the rotory engine is so complex to have somebody tune it because it wont be a pnp at all. But could I send a ecu out to the company to have it tuned?

You're aware that STS doesn't make a kit for the RX8 right...
You would have to custom fab everything. You'd be building a completely one off custom turbo setup. Just because they sell "universal" kits for like 3 or 4 grand, doesn't mean you buy that and you're set. You still need a ton more parts and the build cost would be way higher than just buying a Greddy kit and tuning it with MazdaManiac via the Cobb Accessport.
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that you don't have the resources or skill required to do a 100% custom turbo build like this either if you're asking these types of questions and trying to pinch pennies on going Forced Induction.

well the kits 2900, and yes I do relize that it will have to be 100% custom because there isnt a kit for the 8, so its gonna be and extra grand to buy the tubing to plumb it and I do have a friend that has the resources and talents to do this, thats not really a concern to me, im just worried about it working and being tuned properly.

Ha, got a kick outa the lil billy thing. Thanks for the warm welcome guys.... But I have done more resarch on this subject and saw the thread on the guy that built his from the ground up, I thought it was amazing. The only thing i'm still pondering is the hangers to keep it on the car which I got time to think about, seeing I dont have the money yet. But I am probaly doing it within the next year... hopefully.
