Smile Turbo Question

With everything else stock, can this vehicle be turbo'd without any other mods up to 300hp?
If not, what would I need to accomplish this? More air flow, intercooler, injectors, pcm, throttle body? stuff like that

Thanks guys

Looking at picking one of these up in 1 hear after my tour of duty and am wondering some things.

Hey Mclawa, welcome to the 8 club.
I suggest you look around a the forum a bit more and you'll find that many people here have turbo'd there cars and there are some other mods you might want to consider.

Be safe on your tour, check out the major horsepower section, and be prepared for lots of reading.

I'll get ya started, then you'll have to run with it and learn some things. Then you should come back with anything you dont understand that you've read, or any questions you need help finding answers for.

No two turbo kits are the same but; your basic turbo kit includes a manifold/downpipe, cold side piping, intercooler, turbo, and the hardware necessary to put it all together including any oil/water lines, and engine management. Often kits come with more; injectors, BOV etc

For any of the obviously availible kits: All of the kits except the Greddy have turbo's that are easily capable of flowing enough air to produce 300whp. The Greddy kit can do it, or get very close but has been problematic in the past(you'll read about it). There are a options availible to upgrade the Greddy turbo to be better suited, you'll read about this also.

Making 300whp is getting very close to the limit of what the OEM injectors can support. Personally i woudnt recommend shooting for 300whp with stock injectors.

Right around the 330whp mark the OEM igniton coils succumb to spark blowout. and thats assuming you have 100% functional working coils, most people dont as they seem to degrade very quickly.

IIRC somewhere in the mid 300'swhp range you start reaching territiry that your clutch may not have the capacity, or at least will not last for long.

The single most important aspect of doing anything like this is proper tuning, which requires the proper tools/engine management. dont skimp out on tuning.

You keep raising power and things progressivly become the weak link and fail. you go far enough and it will change from a few hundred dollars here and there to support substantial power increases - to very big money to support anything more.

there's a saying i've seen here and it holds true. Fast, Reliable, Cheap. pick two, you can never have all three
