Hey I just got my rx-8 and wanted to ask you guys your opinion on which would be easier on my engine, going turbo or supercharger. I am not concerned with making major power just want a little extra oomph. Preferably something easy to maintain too. i want my car to last for a while and just want to put a little power into the car. I figure as long as it looks fast it may as well have a little something under the hood. I have a 2005 automatic rx-8. Let me know what ya think. Thanks

 

The Pettit SC sounds like a good bet for you - do a search .

Ya, I saw that but, It doesn't really say which is easier on your engine. I just want something that won't require me to completely revamp the engine, but will still be reliable for a daily driver.

 

it does not matter which you choose in that respect - it's more about how much boost you run and how good your tune is ....

 

hey Shemansky- I belive the Pettit Supercharger will suit you the best for Daily driving. And it also improves MPG. ohh and by the way check out the chicago fourms.

MM has been saying it's all about mass airflow and NOT how much boost ya run. Hmm............

 

Doesn't matter anymore guys....grrr backed out of buying my car today...Went to pick it up today and the dealer tells me the car flooded. I proceed to get on here and look around for car flooding problems and realize it is a major issue. I backed out of buying the car because I need a daily driver...grrrrrrrrrrrr

 

Flooding = minor issue

 

Flooding = NON ISSUE.

I don't see how it isn't an issue, when multiple people have had their cars towed to the dealers over it and it just happened to this car with only 28000 miles on it the day i was supposed to buy it. It's a big enough issue to make me not buy the car

 

If you have a new starter, a strong battery and 10 minutes of your life then it is not an issue.
There's an official procedure and at least other two alternatives to deflood our car.
The only time i flooded it was the dealership's fault, it never happened again.

 

Is he saying the engine flooded or the car flooded? Car flooded would be a major problem, engine flooded is a minor problem.

It is only an issue if you dont know how to resolve it at the time . It has happened to me twice since fitting the turbo - (never happened while i was NA in 3yrs ) . I knew exactly what to do (cause I read it on here) and it was not an issue .

For the rest of us - it isn't .

 

72K and NEVER flooded. Car has been exposed to temps as cold as -20 and temps as hot as 120. Ive literally, started my car and immediately put it into reverse and killed it while the idle was still at 2K plus and IT DID NOT FLOOD.

No offense, but the RX8 in general sounded wrong for you anyways.

 

They probably moved it and shut it off without letting it warm up. All you have to do to prevent flooding is not shut the car off until the engine has warmed up some. A rotary is different from a modern piston engine in that regard.

1. Don't shut it off until it has warmed up.

2. Don't drive it hard until the temp needle is sitting at its normal warmed-up level for at least 10 minutes (coolant temps are normal at that point, but it takes longer for the oil to warm up).

3. Once it is warmed up, redline it using full throttle at least once a day.

4. Your gas mileage will suck.

5. Make sure you check the oil fairly frequently, as the rotary is designed to burn oil. I check mine every 1000 miles and top it off to full.

 

1 year of ownership, 17,000 miles later, not one incident of flooding. You know why? I spent all the time waiting for my car's arrival reading this forum.

 

Let him be if he cant even deal with a flooded engine(there is a pedal to the floor proccedure that resolves this) then hes not ready for the other maintenance.....
