Turbo Turbo Turbo
i was wondering when a valid turbo was coming out on the market so we can get one already..
The power the car gives is decent but i need more to be satisfied.

Yes. I recommend a Mustang Cobra (supercharged), an STI, or an EVO - you will blow by anybody with any of those cars. Then you will be satisfied if that's what you're looking for. I think the vast majority of 8 owners are quite satisfied with the power delivery, and aren't looking for tire-smoking straight-line performance. We are quite content watching Ike blow by us in his frumpy looking econobox. :D
I am personally leery of a turbo rotary after the history of the twin-sequential turbo'd 3rd gen engines.

finally installed CZ's stage 1 with him tonight, and I must say, the power is nice ! Spent a little time driving around tonight to test out the car, and find the dips have been smoothed out a little, and 9k does come much faster. It is Noticeable, and I think the 8 would surprise a few cars with this mod. It is no Cobra, but if you want great handling, and great performance, I think the extra 25-27hp here tops it off.
I was happy with the performance before, but this is just icing on the cake

You want massive straight-line power at an affordable price? Find a used 2000 or later Z28 or Trans AM. (I say 2000 or later because there were some minor technical changes in that year, ask if you want to know about it)
I saw one in a dealership in NJ, 01 with 27,000 miles for $18,9XX. Stock 310hp (although GM underrates it, private tests show 330-340). Then for a couple thousand more you get a lot of power. I have about 375-400 hp (need another dyno done) right now with rather light moding:
2002 Z28 (from factory w/ LS-6 Block and intake manifold)
SLP/GM factory performance airbox lid
K&M air filter
SLP MAFS
SLP CAI
SLP Long Tube Headers
SLP Mass flow cats
SLP 3in Y-Pipe
-----------------------------
SLP Strut Tower Brace
SLP Subframe Connectors
Soon I'm going have GM Performance parts Ported LS-6 headers and an aggressive racing cam shaft put in. (Might change the rods and fuel injectors too) I'm promised by GMPP at least 485rwhp with a stock engine. As mine is, I'm told I'll easily be over 500rwhp. Other cars with similar setups ran high 10's and low 11's in the 1/4 mile and that's all N/A big V-8 power, no N0S, no forced induction.
On the other hand, I love the 8. I can't wait to buy one for my everyday driver, which will be happening within a few months. I can see where you're coming from, not being satisfied with the power. I would be too if I didn't have my Z28 for when I feel the need to burn rubber. So if you've got the budget for a 2nd car, or if the power is important enough to warrant a trade in, look into the late Z28's and Trans AMs.

it makes me wonder about this whole torque thing? I Understand some big blocks have that advantage, but to me, the way the car is geared in first and second gives it a nice pull regardless of torque. I know the G35 has more torque for example, but my few runs with a good friend's G35 have showed very little difference is pull from 40mph-80 or so. With the stage one mod, 60mph comes very quickly, and is more than enough for me. Did some good runs last night and was breaking the tires lose shifting into 3rd......but it was colder, so that may not happen in the summer. Some guy in a modded Prelude tried to run with me from a light and it wasn't even close. I am not one for street racing, but I think everyone likes to step on the gas once and a while and feel some push. I am curious now how the 8 will run with my buddies G35 from 0-60.

Heh... get a stage 3 neon SRT-4 for quick power (only 21k) hehehehehe or......
Perhaps a 3rd Gen with a single turbo conversion upgraded apex seals and street ported.... oh and you'll need to upgrade the rad and intercooler.
Seriously though... I want a hella (sure why not use the word) fast RX8 also. I loved the 3rd gens and think the 8 will be a good platform also once people start playing with them. I mean... upgrade the apex and side seals and do an EXHAUST (not intake) port and drop like 12-15 from a turbo and your back to 3rd gen smoke you bad power. Of course... if that doesn't work... go get a 20B and ask the guys at Acosta to drop that in for ya.
Oh I agree.... TURBO TURBO TURBO. Trust has a kit coming but supposedly only making 260. If that is at the wheels though... yummy!
Ok I rambled enough.

turbo would be nice. but isn't the renesis more suited for a supercharger?
btw i have seen many more f-bodys that are as fast or faster than imports. (and they weigh more and are non aspirated!)...while i'll love cars like the famed evo, sti, gst, and tsi. i would rather get pulled over in a big, rumbling small block v-8 so powerful that it spills the cops coffee as he writes me ticket than a tiny import on steriods

:D check us out, at www.ssr-engineering.com the kit will be completed very very soon producing a very modest 275WHP.

today do forced induction engines last as long normally aspirated ones??....i know this wasn't the case with the gm turboed 3.8 L(grand nationals) btw, a bad *** car........

cashcow- seriously just go for a canzoomer stage 2 unit. They should be shipping soon- and about 45 horses extra (starting at bout 3700 rpm) should satisfy you. It's cheap at about $1200 and should be very relable. How much better will a $6000 or more (including installation) turbo be?

Xero,
Yes, I've seen the AWD Talons and such do very fast 1/4 mile times. I saw one once (not street legal) do a 7.9 so I know they're fast.
HOWEVER...
I find this interesting. Smithey claims to have run an 11.8 with his 611fwhp car, yet I ran my car stock and was only 1.7 seconds slower with 310hp. I ran it again with nothing but the new filter and the airbox lid (maybe 335hp) and hit a 12.9, only 1.1 seconds slower. F-Bodies with similar setups to how I will have mine when I call it finished (In 500-550rwhp range) are running naturally aspirated 10's and they weigh more than the Talons and GSTs. I'm not calling Smithey or you a liar. I'm just saying perhaps they won't "smoke" me as easily as you make it sound, that is, if they will beat me at all.

ANY car doing 7.9 has little resemblence to the original stock vehicle.. It's like taking a housecat and genetically engineering it into a cougar and still calling it a tabby.

Ultimately there is only so much power you can produce with X displacement. Particularly when reliablity gets factored in... As someone else said... out of the box for $35k the Ford Mustang Cobra...390hp and even has FAIR handling. Headers, high-flow cat or straight pipe, cat-back and change the pulley on the S/C... that beast will eat Vipers, etc. and you haven't even spent $40k... and there is little to no concern about blowing an engine at this power level. Do i want one? As much as I like 'Stangs... nope. I'd rather have an 8 or the upcoming turbo Legacy. Just my taste of the day.
Actually if I had the time and money, I'd like to drop the Cobra engine and tranny in a Lincoln LS and add some suspension mods. Have one hell of a sleeper there.
I love my Mustangs and I love my GTR and Legacy (sorry the Imprezza is Fugly). Each has it's strong point and each has it's weak point. Ultimately it's "different strokes for different folks" so let's not go crazy here about American muscle Vs imports... K?
