Typhoon Intake Resonance
I just finished installing the Typhoon and it seems to have made a small but noticible difference, however...
When under hard acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gears, I get a really loud internal resonance from the intake. The dash sounds like it is gonna vibrate clear out of the car.
Anyone else experience this? I knew it would louder, however I didn't think it would make the car vibrate like that. I did not pop a CEL or have any abnormal things take place. I do not have the hesitation problem some people are talking about in the middle of thr RPM range either.
Any ideas on the resonance though?

Ok - now I got logged in correctly - I got dynamat extreme (the aluminum HI temp stuff)
Gonna do up the baffle from K&N, the underside of the tub itself and the engine cowl underneath. The stuff is rated to 300 Degrees + so I dont think there will be any issue...
Ill take pics of the install as well as the finished product and let everyone know.

Excellent. Please take pics of each step of the install and put together a DIY thread like this one. There are more K&N Typhoon adopters than there are RE intake users, and I'm sure a DIY thread on it would be a big hit.

ok- I got to it last night
quick overview:
I dynamatted the enter heat shield itself. Ill get pics posted in a DIY soon. It helped, but not to the degree that I would have expected. When I get on it, the dash still starts to sing...
I have a few more mods that ill be doing today that should take care of the vibration. We noticed last night that the intake tube itself vibrates like a madman. We will be damping it by adding some dynamat to the "foot" that comes in contact with the heat shield. Also - we might place some dynamat on the intake tube itself, but have not come to that as a solution as of yet. Also - the engine cover might be a source of some of the problem. It basically bridges from the heatshield to the firewall of the car and removing it does take some of the issue away.
Anywho - ill let everyone know the more I dig into the issue.

You may want to look into creating a cover for the heat shield then adding dynamat to that. I'd think that would cut down on the noise and also keep out more of the hot air from the engine bay.

well.....
Off the intake came. It made interior parts loose (yes I have a lead foot) even after the dynamat. I will be doing the cover, etc but need to have a machine shop to do it right. So - it will be a bit before the intake instructions get posted on the DIY stuff.

I've got the RE intake as well and I have found another way to make it quieter. I have reconnected the VFAD vacuum hoses so that the VFAD is operating as it does with the stock intake. That included re-connecting the original hose with the black cylinder on it back up to the white 90 degree connection.
I think it definately makes a difference with the mid-rpm resonating problem. To do this mod though, you will need to buy some extra vacuum hose because with the mounting position of the solenoid valve on the back of the heat shield, the original hose isn't long enough to reach the tube in the bottom of the intake cavity.
The way to check that you have got it rigged up correctly is to grab a torch and look in to the VFAD from the inside. If the door is closed, you've done it right.
I've also insulated my heatshields and now at last I'm happy with the sound. I think driveablility has also improved with the VFAD now closed below 7250rpm.
