Dont waste your money. At best I'd call that "marketing", at worst just a flat out lie. Dont expect ANYWHERE near those gains.

NA the car is never going to be a neck snapping rocket. Nor was that the intent/purpose of the car and most people buying it knew that going in. If you want to snap your head off, trade the car in and use the money you would spend on mods for a GTO or an STI or something like that.

If you just want a little improvement on a reasonable budget (ie not the ULTIMATE) the smart route seems to be flywheel, RB street flash (I'm waiting for cobb myself) and an Agency Power Pulley (mostly for keeping the water pump from cavitating). This isn't going to make the car a rocket ship, but the flywheel will certianly make it feel perkier. The RB has some minor improvements in terms of driveability and greatly improves cooling by turning on the fans earlier. The pulley depending on who you talk to has a very negligible effect on performance but again improves cooling, esp for track days.

The best mod for this car is attitude: Apreciate the virtues of the car, the handling, brakes etc. and don't sweat getting ripped on by other cars in a straight line. Find a curvy road and you'll forget all about horsepower.

The basics as for any car unless you want to do major engine work. Don't go too cheap some ebay crap will just fall apart and degrade an RX8.

For acceleration:
Intake
Header
Mid-Pipe
Cat-Back Exhaust

If you want better handling:
Rear and Front sway bars
Suspension kit (depends on what you want to spend, I prefer Tein)
You can go all out and get additional chassis braces and end links if you want to put the money into your 8.

With just those upgrades you could look for about 20 additional whp. Oh and a car that can hug turns like you want it to. It really depends on what you're looking for as far as budget and utility. Stick to the basics.

lightweight flywheel
4.777 final
clutch upgrade
CAI (RB or AEM)
hi flo cat or straight pipe (if you don't mind the noise)
catback
header (RB, where is it)
ECU flash (RB, Cobb ... not out yet)
light weight wheels
good set of dampers/coilovers
light weight brake rotors
carbon trunk
remove all 4 seats and replace with light weight racing seats (or do the same and leave out the rear seats ... up to you)
upgraded engine mounts
underdrive pulleys (YES THEY DO DO SOMETHING ... not much though)
upgraded ignition wires (doesn't hurt)
grounding kit (doesn't hurt)

... and if you really want to get nasty or just plain got the money:
light weight rotors (engine response)
ceramic seals (may as well while you got the engine open)

only fill car to 1/4 tank of gas
you as the driver loose some weight (no offense)

^ Also, you want to replace the calipers. The front stock ones are damn heavy.

Also, I don't see a light weight battery

and CF hood. If you get the right one you save 7 lbs! (I have no idea which one it is)

And a custom exhaust. Team lost a significant amount of weight doing that.

Oh course for the amount of money you have just spent you could easily get a FI kit. But you ought to have some of your warranty left.

I dumped 90lbs around the drivers seat area and it made a big difference to my 8, my doctor stopped bitching at me as well

Another option, kick out your passenger and that might save some 200 lbs.

This I found to be more effective then the 18 lbs saved with light weight wheels and the 4.8 lbs lost on the flywheel.

But seriously, I found the AFE short shifter to be the most noticeable improvement to the driving experience, but I suggest using Royal Purple transmission oil unless you like the extra transmission noise.

Next up for me is shocks/springs and maybe sway bars. I hope that will rival the short shifter for driving experience improvements.

do this:

RB or AEM intake
Agency power crank pulley
custom header
HKS hi-power or custom exhaust
magnecore competition 8.5mm plug wires
RB lightweight rotors
ceramic apex seals
porting (if you want ultimate, do perhiphal porting)
Cobb AccessPort (when it comes out)
Mazsport fuel pump upgrade
Koyo rad
Fidanza 8.5lbs flywheel
Exedy clutch
RP short shifter
4.777 rear end
RacingBrake BBK
KW V3 coilovers
Progress tech anti-sway bars
lightweight rims (Volks, Gram Lights, SSR's, etc)
sticky street radials
Richard Sohn OMP adaptor
Carbon fiber hood
Carbon fiber trunk
Bride racing seats
remove rear seats
full rollcage
AutoEXE undercarraige brackets
remove all sound deadening
remove radio
remote A/C and climate controlers and heater
remove all carpeting and floormats, etc
plastic/lexan or polycarbonate side and rear windows

and then the secert weapon:
Zex nitrous kit, 150-hp shot (after Charles gets his worked out, of course)

That would be one hellofa fast 8, and handle great too

Chicken, this is a nice list. However, for all these parts (shipping, tax, and installation) you'd get probably 20HP gains. For just a few bucks extra...why not just go F/I?

And to the OP,

Are you against going F/I? If so, why?

I doubt all those gains would yield only 20-rwhp. Plus, you have to factor the major weight savings and upgraded handling prowless. Plus the nitrous would make it exremely interesting, considering it's a 150-hp shot, would equal a turbo at over 13 or so psi.

But then again, I never said I would do that. I'm just chiming in the ultimate NA setup. I never said it was MY dream setup, LOL. I want an SFR turbo kit and BAD!

Check my signature... Enkei RPF-1 wheels, Bridgestone RE-01R tires, greatly improved suspension with anti-roll bars and a mis-matched K-Sport front coil-overs and Eibach Pro-kit springs on stock shocks in the rear... Oh, and a much lighter Magnaflow exhaust. Lots of money spent....

Watching a good driver in your personal RX-8 simply OWN a 993 on Willow Springs front straight? Own every other car on the track in a 20 minute session, including a C5 Corvette? Priceless!

GTFO. 8/11 of your posts are in this thread in the last hour, all in a row. Look it up. If you cant look it up, you cant manage to get your car running properly with what you're wanting to do.

You wont be running a 100 shot, I can tell you that much. At least not for now.

I'd triple bridge port it... that's what most people are getting for their rx8 and it gets great hp and sounds great. You can hook a bag of sand up to the intake and carefully port it yourself. Depending on how much you want to port, use more or less sand.

-not responsible for any damages done while trying to mod the car by any means I mentioned above-

There'd be a bit more hp from all the stuff listed... not a whole lot, but some of it is a bit more extreme than anyone sees being worth doing for the money... there's a point where you might as well just slap a turbo on.

i think alot of u guys are missing the point by posting suspension mods...
now the ultimate setup is to prolly just get EVERYTHING.... but that is expensive and yes at some point it would be more cost effective to just go turbo... i will give u wat i got
as u can see in my sig

rb intake with duct = 400-450$
custom 3" midpipe = 100$
obx header = 250$ installed... (i got a good deal)
rb reflash = 400$ (one of my favorite mods)
rb rev8 cat-back = 900$ installed...
rb lightweight flywheel 600$ plus install (im not 100% sure on price)
total is about 3gs for an end result of 203 whp

now compare that to turbo... 5000 (or much more for a decent kit) for kit plus install plus tuning plus constant maintainence and or upgrades

now if u want some straight line performance spend 750 on a nitrous kit. for about 40whp (50 shot jets) wait for ray to finish so u could spray 100 shot jets for about 80whp and ur in the league of the turbo guys... and by the way... theres no spool up time for nitrous... n/a>turbo baby!

But then you have to refill your nitrous all the time. Keep that in mind too.
