Umnitza Intake installed= Crazy fuel mileage!!

I had a few problems with my car but I got most of them sorted out (except the radio....). So I ordered my carbon fiber Umnitza Simota intake and installed it yesterday (Pics will be posted soon).
First off, the instructions were crappy. Didn't show how to install the fussy mounting brackets, or any word mentioned about the screens you need to ****** from the stock intake (which I found out about by reading posts on here).
After aout 1 1/2, got the new intake in. Very loud at above 3k rpm or when you dump on the throttle. Sounds nice except over 7600rpms where I get a nasty vibration from almost too much sound. Redline hurts my hears now and shakes the speakers.
Performance isn't markedly improved, but it kinda feels slightly faster. Kinda. But it sounds nice.
But here's the part I didn't expect, an unbelievable improvement on my fuel mileage! Not just 5 or 10 miles to the tank, I'm talken 7 miles to the GALLON ! I was getting really shitty mpg before- around 15.5. Now I'm over 22! I honestly think my fuel gauge is borken. So Far I've gotten over 100 miles on just more than a 1/3 of a tank. It isn't possible!! My fuel gauge HAS TO BE broken!
I've only run 102 or so miles on the new intake, so I'll run it for a few tanks and see how this pans out. I just still can't believe it. It must be a fluke! Right?

How are you tracking your mileage?

I reset my "B" Trip Meter every time I fill up, and then when I fill up again, I put the mileage on the back of the reciept so I can calculate at the end of the month. I'm getting somewhere around 13.6 mpg, but I'm going on week 3 as an RX-8 ownwer so I still shift at 4k rpms like I ahve pistons.

I've been looking for something to boost mileage. Pics yet? Links

How many tanks did you track to get 7 mpg? I do as SirZyron. That is the most acurate way. I averaged about 18 for a long time. Then it started creeping up. I am getting about 20mpg on average now. (I have 43,000 miles)

Whatever call BS if you want, I don't give a ****. I know my fuel mileage. I reset my B trip odometer every tank full as well, and right the gallons on the back of the reciept, too, then do the math. I was getting around 15 or so (47 per 1/4 tank). Now I'm up to 60 per 1/4 tank or so. I don't know why, I've only had the 8 for a month now and my driving habbits can't be effecting that much.
I'm going to run more tank loads (obviously) before I'm 100% sure about this. It may be a fluke.
Just wanted to pass this along to the rest of you guys. If you don't care, then don't post.

Yeah people were, but Umnitza got them sorted out by changing the size of the intake tube. Plus, some of the smarter members on this board found you need to put in the screen from the stock intake before the MAF sensor. Of course I kept my stock intake just in case.

crappy filter = less airflow

less airflow + MAF = less fuel injection

less fuel injection = higher MPG

I once stopped flooring it and saw my mileage increase from 5 mpg to 20... 300% increase!

I was so happy I started flooring it again in celebration!

Don't base it on third or quarter tanks, just set the mileage then when you fill up divide the miles driven by gallons put in. The meter isn't exactly the most accurate. You also have to take into account the meter doesn't stop at E when it is empty, that is when the light comes on.

My boat gets about 4-5mpg and cost 200ish$ to fill up. Now THAT's bad gas mileage.

Yeah, I mean this car will only burn $25K-$30K in gasoline over its lifetime, while the average car will burn so who cares?

See what good things happen when you're car hurts you're ears above 3k rpm? Rx7 people have known this trick for years!

yeah, i guess so, because saving money on gas and using that money for aftermarket parts would be stupid or something. Who needs extra money? That's just downright stupid!!!!

These days auto makers set the cars up to get the best gas milage possable. It's more or less been proven over and over on this forum that you're not gonna increase the gas mileage on this car to any point you could feel.(w/o going to a stand alone type set up) If you jam up your intake and allow the car to not use so much air you might get a better MPG out of you tank at the cost of power, but for what? So you can use that money to mod your now slower car?

These cars burn alot of gas and I under stood this when I bought mine. The sticker in the window was a dead give away, but C&D and this forum backed all that up.

My car gets about 260mpg till its stilling on E, It did that stock, and it still does that after a intake, catback and R&B flash.

Trekk: how's that RB flash treating you?

Wait until you start trashing the accel. pedal b/c you now enjoy the sound under wot. then your mpg will go down or level off.

I noticed that the gas meter isn't really right on at all... I think the first 1/4th of a tank is actually less than it says... And I know that right when you hit the GAS light, you still have 3 gallons left even though it's passed the line

Anyone know where the rattles from intake noise/vibration come from? And, how to fix them?

I've got it with my k&n version 2, and I HATE it. I really ruins the high rpm sound.

Of course cars are designed to get the best of both worlds from the factory. But I do know that I was getting only 200 miles to tank load (fuel light) before putting on my intake, and now I'm getting nearly 260 or so before the light comes on. And it isn't any slower- I still chirp the 1-2 and 2-3 shift just like before, and when I get on the throttle the rear end still gets squirley, and I still keep up and/or beat the same cars I used to.
And saving money on gas is good for me. Because I budget for shitty gas mileage, and when I get better, I have extra money, how can that be a bad thing?
So overall I; increased fuel mileage (it's gone down since my first tank), and didn't hurt my performance, and made it sound better.
