umnitza/simota intake pics
mail man came around 11am this morning with a gift! i FINALLY, after a month or so of waiting, got my Umnitza/Simota intake... i quickly unwrapped it and the thing is beautiful. got the tools out, well, 10mm socket and a philips screwdriver, and got to work...
at first i couldn't figure out how to get the stock airbox out, so i got on here and SEARCHED... it's amazing what you can find when you search... and i found out how. you just pull up on the back tabs of the intake, where the cover sits, and the bottom posts pop out. then just push forward on the intake and the top posts pop out. loosen the clamp on the accordian hose and pull.
so, after 45 min of trying to figure out how to get it out and a whoping 10 min install of the Simota, i am now intake happy!!! i took her for a test drive and the thing sounds like a freaking jet, at WOT...!!! it sounds completly stock at idle and normal driving conditions. BUT!! step on it!! well, that's a whole other story.
and coming tomorrow is the MS Sport Exhaust!!!
i just want to thank everyone here for their infinite knowledge of the rotary and all aspects of the car itself....
now for the pics.

i agree, it is loud, but only at WOT. the only problem is i can see my mileage going down at first.... sigh..... just to hear her sing to me! ![Rock](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/rock.gif)
ps... when i took her out, i went on some old country back roads with NO traffic. my butt dyno feels a difference in mid-upper rpm range. i saw 120mph pretty damn quick!!!

Looks pretty good. If you want to coordinate the rest of your engine bay, the Hookup Shop sells CF covers for the battery cover, fuse box cover, ecu cover and radiator panel. Add the Mazdaspeed front strut bar and you will be fully coordinated.

we have an RX8 engine cover that we want to test as well, it's in stock, but just one.
We can coordinate a group buy for you guys on this intake if you guys are interested, but it would have to be a lot of folks, like 20

Nice looking intake. I'm not usually a fan of CF, but it looks really slick.
You might be surprised on your MPG, when I installed my RB REVi my MPG went up despite the increased amount of time I spent flooring it. I also have the RB exhaust. I'm not sure if one or the other would have made a serious difference in MPG, but both together seem to make a dif in MPG and HP (so says my butt dyno)!!
Did you end up taking out the VFAD or leaving it in? I'm not sure if it's just the RB intake, or the fact that I took out the VFAD. But my 8 has lost that low rpm shudder it had.

had an interesting expereince.... i was getting on the highway and once the revs reached 4500, i got this shudder.... nothing too bad, but noticable. about 20 min later, yep, CEL..... is this due to the increased AF? will the ECU reset itself? do i need to reset it? it is not shuddering now but the CEL is still on....
ps.... the VFAD? is that connected to the stock airbox on the backside?? if it is, then i left that on there. do i need to remove that and all hoses/wiring connected?

Please immediately check to make sure you have installed everything properly and tightened it.
Here's the CF cover for those that are interested.

The VFAD is located in the bumper. Thus it is IN FRONT of the stock airbox. You will have to remove the bumper to get at it (search and there is a DIY for that too). Just about all aftermarket intakes recommend removing the VFAD as part of the install.
There is a either a DIY or if many threads on resetting your ECU. You did it before successfully... just trying using "search".

but would not removing the VFAD throw a CEL? are there any advantages/disadvantages to removing the VFAD with an aftermarket intake?

What a coincidence, I also recieved my simota intake today and installed it as well. Looks great and sounds nice as well, although at WOT it is very loud (not annoying loud). The sound increases the more you step on the pedal. If your slowly rev up you wont hear the intake much.
I only get some odd sputtering if i hold the throttle around 6000 rpm. I did not remove the VFAD. What causes this? Is something misfiring?
If your check engine light stayed on then your going to have to disconnect the negative wire on your battery and then press the brake a lot of times to drain any power thats left.
Leave it disconnected for about 30-45 min then reconnect battery.
Turn your 8's engine on and then turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then back all the way to the right.
After this you will still have the "car with squigly lines light" on. That light will turn off next time you turn off and start your car.
