Matt, thanks for the post. It is my understanding the product sat there because it was rumored to be dangerous to be installed.

From my point of view it sounds logical. What should he have done? I mean he has an un-used, sellable part.

Leo,

I'm going to do things I should have done to begin with. I cannot and will not discuss any individual situation online. Suffice it to say, the actual details are between ourselves and the customer and without having the ability to look it all up based on a customer name, I will avoid continued commentary on this specific situation.

Im going to make this as brief as I can but DONT BUY THIS INTAKE.

If you go back a few pages, you will find me and ndtechie09 praising this intake and how we had no problems installing it in is car. And how he loved the sound and the look, all around we both liked it.
.
.
.
PoLaK gets home from New Orleans and we start to experiment. First off, polaks car has RB intake and exhaust, thats it. ndtechie09 just has the Simota CF intake. Right off the bat, (and we did this ALOT), PoLaKs car pulls 4 car lengths from a 3rd gear 70mph run. And yes, thats about 4 car lengths everytime. Even switched drivers. Alright, lets put the stock intake back in with a K&N drop in, BOOM, PoLaKs car only pulls about 1 car length IF that, probably due to the Dyno proven Racing Beat intake and exhaust. (this was done just as much and in the same fashion as before) This experience has made me another firm believer that there is no substitute for a company that actually dyno tunes their parts, and really cares about the product they sell.

ANYWAY, that was just a though, go spend your money where you like

Were there any other mods on the car that might effect the intake/exhaust equation?

Could also be an ECU tuned to one intake will give you intiitally high results with a new intake before the ECU corrects and enriches the A/F to where it belongs. (according to the ECU)

Maybe if you'd reflashed the ECU and put another 100 miles on that stock air intake it might mean something to me, but as it? Meh.

I'd say dyno the car, switch the intakes, then drive it for a week or two. Then dyno it again and lets hear what the results are.

Just a question- this is a custom-made intake system for the rx-8.. where are the dynos? Seriously it would take an hour MAYBE to get this done, and there wouldn't be any argument over power. I am on the brink of buying an intake, and it would certainly help Simota's case if I could see some results other than some handycam video.

By the way- anyone have a clip of what the RB intake sounds like? Childish as it may seem, I really like the appeal of a throatier sound with this upgrade.

I just purchased this intake and the guys were really nice to deal with. I have full confidence that the product works. I was going to get the MS CAI but I wanted to keep the VFAD intact and this intake fits the bill.

i have this intake sitting in my garage...im willing to sell it for $120 plus shipping.

i only used it for about 5 days. it still needs to have the stock mesh screens put in to work correctly i believe. i also have the new MAF part that umnitza sent me. if theres interest i might just go to the for sale section or someone can send me a pm. thanks.

For that price I'm interested. Any idea how much the stock mesh screen would go for? Why didn't you continue to use it? CEL?

Just a little update. I had my car dyno'd a week or two ago. I'm going to be putting the intake on tonight, resetting the ECU, then driving it around for a week or so. (few hundred miles)

After that, I'll dyno the car again and post the graphs/results if there are any changes.

FREE... you just take the one that is removable out of the stock airbox. it's held in by a couple screws. might take you 5 min. to remove and replace.

yea like stricker said you can take the mesh out of the stock intake and put it in the new one.

the reasons why i stopped using it are all in this thread. i was one of the first people that got this intake, which was before they came out with the new MAF part and the idea of putting in the stock mesh.

it gave me a temporary cell that lasted about 30 seconds then went away. But as i said before, it was without the new MAF part and mesh screen, so with those two it would work fine from what ive read in this thread.

So after doing this install I have a question.

Isn't this intake going to be pulling air from both the stock intake port and hot air from the engine bay?

Well, like I said I'll give it a week or so then dyno it. That should give the ECU enough time to get well used to it after a couple of hundred miles. I had a dyno done last week on a Dyno Dynamics. Weather is going to be the same, so should give similar results for the rest of the system. Any change will basically boil down to the intake.

Has anyone else ever done a true 3rd party test of this intake on a dyno?

While I'm not taking sides or commenting on anything other than the bolded statement above, I'd have to say that after reading all 27 pages of this thread I'm curious to see where dealing with Izoomzoom resulted in losses? If I've correctly comprehended the previous statements with regard to his participation, he volunteered without expectation of compensation, patiently waited for the compensation that was offered after the fact, and then stated that he never received the compensation that was offered...

Where are the losses to be cut?

(Aside from that, I'm glad it all turned out well for this intake...)
