Vendor Request: Intake straightener
AEM makes these for the Mazda3 CAI only. It's too small for our CAI.
It would be great if someone picked up this project and mass produced them for us. This setup would allow us to straighten out the air in a shorter distance. Just need something that won't slip out of place when secured with a coupler.
Any vendors here able to produce them?

mazda3 guys had lots of issues till aem made this for them. Apparently there's a bend nearby or something. I didn't pay much attention other than the fact that this isn't a screen and it forces the air to line up.

Cobb also sells an intake for the WRX, and MS3 with this built in.
Cobb uses a CFD-designed velocity stack leading to an unique air flow straightener grid. This straightener grid is specifically designed to smooth the incoming air flow as it passes the Mass Air Flow sensor for precise readings. This eliminates the "dead spots" that can be experienced by poorly designed aftermarket intakes due to turbulence.

The cp-e™ XCel™ intake on the other hand has several features that ensure an accurate mass air meter reading. We not only machine out mass air housings from aluminum blanks to tolerances of +/- 0.002” (about the width of a human hair), but we also include a stock-style airflow straightener, which our competitors delete, yet greatly improves sensor precision. The resulting fuel trims are nearly stock, and the vehicle drivability is unchanged from stock…save for the extra horsepower of course! Please check out the dyno graphs.

We have metal nets on the Aem\mazdaspeed intakes so this would be useless for us, or for any other NA rx8. Maybe for a turbo set-up with a very short or custom intake. Setting up production has costs and these probably wouldn't be large scale sellers, just niche products imho

I'm going to assume the intake screens are not as effective as these, otherwise mazda would have used them on the ms3 too. The RX-8 doesn't need them because the intake had enough space for the flow to not be as disrupted. However, there's quite a few people who have had issues with screens, or limited space and this would be something we'd welcome.
BTW, I'm going to be using the AEM intake on my setup, but due to space, the screens wouldn't be usable nor sufficient to make proper airflow.

the pipe the maf sensor is in is usually the same regardless of application - at least if they're choosing the correctly sized inner diameter. The rear of it might change, but usually it's a 6" pipe or so, and then couplers are used to secure it.

Im with mysql on this. I have the AEM intake with the greddy setup and I have 0 screens, why? Well because the only way I could make it fit was usin just the maf housing piece and the one with the bends, and the coupler that will join these two is the one with the hump which means it wont hold the screen.

size is only part of the problem... the larger part is whats upstream and downstream
