what is the best clutch kit for a rx8?

I had the stage 1 on my last car. For that car it was the stock clutch disc and a heaver pressure plate. It gave a nice semi heavy feel to the pedal which I liked. If you have no major mods, turbo etc, then this is what you want.

Does anyone know whether this clutch would be awesome? It seems to be the same as the exedy but cheaper (off eBay) and has a koyo bearing which I think is an upgrade. I did notice it seems to be missing the pilot bearing seal.

Is this the same as this?
EXEDY OEM Replacement Clutch Kit - EXEDY Global Parts - Performance and OEM Clutches and Flywheels
I notice that the one straight from exedy is more expensive and it seems to also include the seal with the pilot bearing based on the picture.
would it also be advisable to order the koyo pilot bearing?

Yes, good call. Basically it is inexpensive about half the price of the exedy from most sources. So I am wondering how they are doing it cheaper. Its OEM so its sufficient for torque holding but what I am hoping is decent smoothness and decent life span.. essentially I am wondering if this is equivalent to the exedy OEM kit, and whether the bearings are decent.

I was talking to the OP, but whatever. That does seem exedingly cheap. And the disc doesnt look quite like what I remember mine looking like. I would not consider that bearing an upgrade though. Not a downgrade either, just.... a bearing.

Ha well thanks anyhow. I noticed two things about the kit, one is that it claims to have the exedy plate. however, exedy lists the plate as 236mm, 23 spline and this one is listed as 240mm, 23 spline. I can never tell from the pics because it looks like some of them use generic pics. I am torn.. I don't want to buy a clutch that is garbage. Do you have any recommendations on where to get a pilot bearing and seal? It seems the clutch kits at most come with the bearing but not the seal.

For the pilot bearing and seal I'd hit the dealer first, or any auto parts store. I went to Clutch Pro for my clutch and got a GREAT deal on the whole kit. I believe the 236/240 thing sort of rings a bell with me. Like 236 was used on certain non turbo RX7s and then the RX8/turbo RX7s use 240mm discs. The 236 will 'work' though, from what I recall. But yeah dont trust the stock pics and don't assume a cheap brand name clutch is genuine.

Good idea on using dealership for those parts. I guess if it actually is a 240 designed for a turbo 7 but fits the 8 its maybe a good thing.
I had the same concerns about the clutch being cheap but The person has a very high rating and very high number of sales. If it was not actually exedy parts as claimed I would think that exedy would mess the dude up and more buyers would complain. But ya.. In my experience cheap is never good lol

The stock Exedy. The stage 1 is know to have issues, which they supposedly fixed but there is still no need. I am turbocharged and run the stock Exedy with the heavy duty throw bearing without any issues. These cars make no torque, the stock Exedy is rated at more than enough to handle it.

Stock Exedy is the money when considering a clutch for every day use and durability. The Renesis isn't a torque monster so you don't need to consider any high sprung clutch kit. As mentioned there have been issues with the Stage 1 kits. I have never had problems with the OEM Exedy and beat the sh*t out of my RX8 on the track.
If you're planning on boosting anytime soon, then it'll be time to look for something like an ACT HD Pressure Plate and a 4 Puck.
