what is best for a starter?
Hi everyone I just got my 06 RX8 recently only have 500 miles. Also my first manual transmission car it was tuff to understand it the first 2 days but got it down pack.
I have 4,000 to spend on performance part to make it quicker. Whats the best way to go for someone that starting to learn on a manual transmission? Also the manual says i have to drive nicely until 600 miles for brake in is that right?
This is the best car I have ever driven and love the styling its AMAZING. Happy Owner

i really suggest you save your money for now. as i think getting more power shouldn't be on top of your priority at this point. driving lessons wont help either as you're still learning finer nuances of mt. if you must spend your money, drive around town & spend the money on gas.
after a few months, track sessons can always be fun... if you really want to drop 4k on the performance, get progressive nitrous kit, fuel upgrades, and gauges, and save the rest for maybe tires.
if you're willing to spend about 6-7k, go turbo, get the interceptor, gauges, etc. etc., and you'll have a completely different car. it becomes a whole lot more bitchier in good & bad way.

I would say replace the oem tires should be the first on the list.

Learn to drive first. Learn how to rev-match when down-shifting. Read about the traction circle and basic performance driving. Go track a driving school like Evolution or do a track day. Evo might be better as its lower speed / lower risk / and virtually zero shifting.
The last thing you want is to get flustered over downshifting when you are barreling to a corner on the track at 120 mph.

just do yourself one favor and don't blow it on the greddy turbo + install. if i could do it over, i would've never gone with greddy. you're looking at about 6-7k if you want to go with greddy. a dedicated ems like interceptor is a must imho (though i'm sure maddog and his followers may disagree)

Welll its been close to 2 weeks and broke 763 miles on my car took it to moroso to race my car. Loving it just wish it revs and accelerate quicker. I took on a cobalt that put me to shame. This guy cherped first , second and a lil in third gear. I ran 93 he did 106 mph the quarter mile. Also took on my boys civic SI which he kept up with me but he has had work done to hes car. I still beat him but what would be best to give it more juice.
Dont really wanna go turbo until theres something worth it. Plus if i do it would be my first turbo car. Dont wanna Screw up anything just yet.
I was thinking a new clutch but hell i have no clue what a better clutch and flywheel would do. Would i notice the difference?

Flywheel is a good way to start. You should feel a noticible difference. I dont think upgrading the clutch in necessary unless your going for some major hp upgrades in the future. While changing the flywheel change the transmission and differential fluids to perhaps redline oil. On top of that add a axial flow short shifter. This should make driving a little bit more fun and precise.
Next step whould be to get a exhaust, a cold air intake (revi with the duct), a highflow cat or midpipe, and the interceptor ems for na apps. All of this should yield around 210hp+ and 150tq+, which is 20-30 over stock.
If you have any money left over after this, which you should, get some tires, maybe swaybars or stiffer springs adn shocks.
Just a suggestion.

I would go with better tires and a mild suspension upgrade such as racingbeat springs and koni shocks or the mazdaspeed setup. These things will improve handling AND straight line performance AND safety.
Then I would suggest saving the rest of the money while you do research. Everyone buys a mod that they regret later.

There is no easy power available. If you really want to go faster, the most effective upgrade is a new differential to change your final drive. The S2000 diff is almost bolt-in and will give you a higher numerical ratio, which will drop your top speed but increase acceleration. Bad news: it will increase the rev's in 6th on the hwy, killing your gas milage. There is also like a 5.5 diff available, which would be really fast, but even worse for gas milage.
Aside from that, a flywheel will provide small gains, as will one of the better intakes, like Racing Beat's. The Interceptor X ECU can provide some gains in NA applications, but again, not huge gains.
Turbo kits are still immature at this time, probably not worth spending on unless you get the Interceptor to go with it.
If you have never done a driving school, I would strongly suggest that. Its the only mod. that transfers to every car and can never break. Improving your own skills is THE most effective way to decrease your lap times. Following that, tires have the next biggest benefit for the $.
