What do you know?

What I would like to do is improve the way my RX8 handles and accelerates. I have read through the forum archives and I could not find anything giving details on what they did and how it worked out for them in the end.

I know get new tires and I already have new tires. I want to improve my RX8. I don't want to void my warranty. Oil filter? Brakes? Aero kit? Air Filter? Whats this about rewire of the Fog lights? Spark Plugs? Has anyone done any of these?

I have a 2004 Touring RX8 6 speed manual.

Please help with some suggestions.

Howdy!
Most of what you just asked is entirely too broad to expect a decent response. Also, most of the people who will read this will have seen more or less the same question posted 10 times per week over the last 2 years. I would narrow down what you want a lot. Do you want more power? Or do you want more handling? What is your budget? Do you have a specific mod you need info about?

Edit: As far as warrantee goes, in general, your warrantee cannot be voided other than for abuse/unintended use. If you replace a part with a non-OEM part - like upgrading your suspension - then a dealer can refuse to honor your warrantee to repair that or related parts if it can be shown that your modification of the car is related to the failure. Wear parts - tires, brake pads, rotors - are not warranteed other than to last a margin of their intended life. If you replace all your stereo components and blow a tranny, then the tranny is covered.

Check out DPE on the vendors forum for handling questions. They have some good writeups on street suspension packages out there.

You should really do a search on some specific power items. There's a ton of information out here on exhausts, intakes, flywheels, nitrous, turbos, superchargers. Search and you will find...

re-wiring the fog lights wont help your car accelrate quicker or handle better

your best bet would be to get a lightweight flywheel.. and then suspension mods... mazdaspeed sells them both so you wont loose your warrinty... but thats it

I guess people are probably burnt out on this topic from new 8 owners.
I will be more specific. I am looking to upgrade filters, fluids, brake pads, rotors, I would really be interested to know about ECU's.

Filter: not much power to be found here. Alot of people stand by K&N, alot don't. If you're looking for an entire intake system (which I think you are) Racing Beat makes a great bolt in unit http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=18299

Fluids: I always stick with dino dung. Castrol 5-20 (when I was NA, now 20-50). I use redline fluids in the gearbox and rear end. There's a number of threads here on fluids

Brakes: A pad upgrade will help if you're experiencing fade, or just want new pads. Hawk HP and Mazdaspeed are both prefectly streetable and not too expensive.

ECU's: For NA, hands down you want the Interceptor-X by Mazsport (a forum vendor). It carries a hefty price tag, but years of R&D have gone into making this the most effective method of gaining control of your motor. You can pick up 15-20HP in the midrange with this. There's also the canzoomer units, which are just modified Greddy emanages. They perform the same function, but have many more quirks. There's a few more one-off's running around, but those are the big two players for NA RX-8's.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, and welcome aboard!

The Interceptor-X is great if you are turbocharging. But for a regular car, see Racing Beat again. It will end up being 1/5th the cost in the end. Or wait for Cobb Tuning to come out with their solution in the spring.

Cool Best mod....

Biggest bang for the buck for me was switching the tranny over to 75w90 Redline synthetic - smooth as silk now!

Keep in mind as well that the racing beat ECU upgrade is only a flash. You are bound to the settings they provide from their facility. The accessport (by Cobb) is an ECU reflasher, so you get some tuning ability there, but neither system is an actual standalone.

To be truly honest, you're not going to get much from any sort of ECU work unless you are turbocharged. Not without putting added stress to your motor, and since you mentioned the W word, I'm assuming you don't want that. Save the money and put it into better tires (that should be a first priority for anyone that wants to go faster, both versions of OEM tires are terrible). It would probably wouldn't hurt to buddy up with someone in a Mazda service department and get them to tell you what mods they'll let slide and which they wont. Mazda dealers have gone as far as voiding a warranty just because an owner came in here and bragged about driving 120mph. They're not all like that, but it's good to know beforehand instead of after.
