What Should My Second Mod be?
#4
Are you looking for cosmetic or performance?
If the object is go make your car faster, I believe in the Driver Mod, $150 to $500 depending on the event and number of days. NASA, BMW Club, Porsche Club, Chin, MVP and others. You will find that if going faster is what you are looking for, this is the best mod you can add. It will not do anything for the straight line but for overall performance and safety, there is no mod that will make your car (you) faster. You will also find during an event like this what your car needs because of handling.
1. Adding parts, I found the front sway (RacingBeat) to be most important, I did add the rear but wound up going back to OEM for handling reasons.
2. Front Strut (mazdaspeed) was a nice addition for looks as well as support for the master cylinder under hard braking. There's a lot of flex in the firewall.
3. Coilovers (tein) was most effective in lowering and adding stability to the car. They are out of your price range though.
4. Brake pads (Hawk HP Plus) was my first aftermarket pad. There are others out there like Cobalts which is what I use now.
I have a friend that before doing track, he added all kinds of mods to his car for cosmetic and "performance" reasons. However when he drove his car on track, he found that most every mod had no significant benefit to actual speed gains. He felt like he had wasted his time and money. So, taking it to the track was the best thing he did to help him see what was needed for performance. However some people are interested in looks and that's just as important to some.
If it were me, I'd save my $500 and wait till I had enough to get coilovers first if you don't want to do the track.
