AFAIK, when you push the pedal and the fluid becomes pressurized, a standard (rubber) brake line will "swell/expand," which means less pressure actually going to the caliper/piston/brake pad. Thus, you have to push the pedal a little harder, and you get that "spongy" feel. When the fluid is pressurized in a stainless line (which is still rubber underneath, just wrapped in steel mesh, the hose has less "give" to it, and you lose less pressure pedal -> pad. So, when you hit the pedal, you don't have that extra "squish."

Same concept with a clutch line, though it may be a bit harder to really feel the difference, since the clutch just always gets pressed to the floor. Theoretically, I guess, your engagement point comes just a bit sooner, and you can shift faster?

Feed 4.777 final drive!

MazdaJeff 06-09-2007 08:49 AM

Seeing as I still have to get my RX8, I can't really add to the best mod list. But about two years ago I went to a racing school. I would suggest this over any mod.

MazdaJeff 06-09-2007 08:51 AM

Sorry, Double post.

shaunv74 06-09-2007 11:21 AM

+1 on driver education. The car is much faster than you are out of the box.

GrRx8MaZdA 06-14-2007 08:58 AM

Cusco Lsd for sure.

And the mazsport's 3 with the fd rotors and hurleys apex seals(If this can be one mod :) )

stuartm 06-14-2007 02:12 PM

I've fitted a few things but the best IMO is the w/l sways with spherical endlinks. I can now feel the car moving underneth & am able to take a 50mph corner at 60mph. Most will be from inspiring confidence at the wheel rather than mechanical grip:rolleyes:
Getting SO2's fitted tomorrow 245/40 hope this improves over the contactsport front & kumho rears:)

YayAreaBruh21 06-17-2007 03:26 PM

Best mod so far would have to be my HKS exhaust, i just love the sound and my butt dyno says i can feel a pull.

TimzSI 06-18-2007 01:49 PM

This post makes me want the Feed 4.777 final drive, flywheel and AFE shifter. I think I would be happy with those. Maybe an HKS single side, too.

I have no mods, besides a Canadian GP sticker I picked up in Montreal last weekend. :)

chickenwafer 06-18-2007 03:53 PM

a better driver. There is always room for improvent in the drivier.

But if you're talking physical performance........new tires.

Do it, you will be please with the 4.777!!!

VASasha 06-19-2007 08:17 AM

I was under the impression that the Feed 4.777 final drive was for NA vehicles, yet your signature says that your car is force fed. Is my info of the 4.777 gear false?

SE3P_HKG 06-19-2007 09:05 AM

The final drive will give you a lower top speed but quicker acceleration, there is no concern with NA or FF.

I am bone stock at this point ... (except some new tires I'll put on soon) But I think the RB flash will be my first "upgrade" ... If it really does help keep the oil temp down ... It sounds like a win/win.

RshnRoket 06-23-2007 11:14 PM

Skip Barber Racing School. Hands down, case closed... but so far my car is completely stock.

well, the more power you have, the longer the gears, generally. Otherwise you'll just spin the tires and not accelerate.

Do you have any pictures of the Feed gears? Or of them being installed, and with what LSD?

GrRx8MaZdA 06-26-2007 10:07 AM

If you have forced induction with at least 300+++whp then the stock or a final drive ration under 4,4 like 4.1 are very good..For na the 4.7 is good but there is no need of a 4.7 when u r in fi...And remember the consumption goes for a walk when having a 4.7 or even a 5.1

SE3P_HKG 06-26-2007 09:36 PM

In theory, a powerful engine should consider using a lower ratio final drive. But for the rotary, even with FI, the engine simply does not have enough low end torque, also the turbo will not start winding until 4.5k - 5.0k rpm. Therefore, the 4.777 will suit FI engine perfectly to assist the car get off the mark or exit a corner!

As for fuel consumtion, if you want to be green, forget driving a rotary engine. It is a drinking monster at birth.

Keef 06-26-2007 10:13 PM

Racing Beat Race flash is the easiest upgrade with the biggest bang for buck...

I saw it as a bigger increase than when I installed my flywheel, under drive pulley, and intake all at once

Lasse wankel 07-03-2007 02:30 AM

My Ferrita 2.5" complete 2.5 exhaust system with a sport cat. It dropped my 0-60 mph times 0.7-0.8s! And it also has a nice deeper tone also, but still comfortable when cruising.

My favorite so far is the Falken Azenis tires they knocked 25 seconds off my Nurburgring Lap times

I have to agree with these three and any others who also advised driver education. The RX-8 is a momentum car on the track by its very nature. Additionally, driver education is applicable under all conditions.

As far as modification to the car or its specifications, my needs were somewhat different than others on the boards here. I needed maximal availability and after having a mishap that trashed two tires in the same incident and having the Mazda-supplied tire valve tool come apart in my hands, for me, my Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S RFTs have proven indispensable. I don't have cause or opportunity to cruise at or above 120mph, I do need a really good rain tire (since I live in New England), and I can still run even if I have another mishap that kills pressure in multiple tires. They also have a more progressive break-away than the OEM Bridgestones, though I concede that their dry limits are not as high. For me, their wet weather behavior was more critical than their dry weather limits. As an added bonus, they are quieter than the OEM Bridgestones, so I hear fewer complaints from my wife.

Huey52 10-02-2009 09:05 AM

Wow, it really is difficult to pick just one, so...

Lowest cost - Pettit rotor backlit radio button.

Low cost - removing the VFAD, mating an RB Duct to my stock intake and dropping in a K&N flat filter.

Medium cost - AFE short shifter with Voodoo Magnum Pearl laser etched knob.

Higher cost - CobbAP Tuner (MazdaManiac) and BHR ignition coils, or Racing Beat gauge pod, or Racing Brake Sport Rotors with Hawk Ceramic pads, or Toyo T1R tires. ;)

What is the single best 'mod' you have done to your 8?

Clear corners. My single mod.

california style 10-02-2009 10:44 AM

best single "everyday mod" short shifter
Best "cheap" NA performance mod light flywheel
BEST mod Pettit supercharger!

kersh4w 10-02-2009 11:37 AM

bought the car.

dntsan 10-02-2009 12:19 PM

Definitely the AFE short shifter and voodoo shift knob.

Solidtrance 10-02-2009 12:22 PM

From a cost per gain perspective it would have to be a K&N drop in + DIY airbox mod. The RB ram air can be added for a little more $ and is said to improve it even more.

Either that or SS Brakes + good pads + good brake fluid. Adds a lot of confidance having brakes with better than the, already fantastic, feel.

plain ole wanker 10-02-2009 02:40 PM

tints 13%
2nd fav monster knob

cliffkemp 10-02-2009 03:37 PM

Depends on what you bought the car for. I would say that if you didnt care about the mpg and the speedo being inaccurate, the best mod for the money is wheel/tire combo. If you want to gain over 10% whp, yes 10 percent, you can get smaller wheels/tires by switching to 17x7 and using 205/40 tires. There are several problems with this. Speedo will be off, handling will suffer due to narrower tires. The good is, due to leverage, you will have about 20 or so more whp, lower the car 1.25 inches and still have stock suspension travel, and about 15 or so more wtq also.

As far as other mods go, I did the flywheel and it gave me the most tq of all the mods to my car but have not done anything with the computer. To each their own.

blackenedwings 10-02-2009 03:55 PM

Turbo kit.... (not sure if that counts as a single mod)

other than that, BHR Ignition and new wheels/tires.

TheWulf 10-02-2009 04:31 PM

Sway bars are def. #1..

In close second is the JDM left hand mirror.

DarthRX8 10-02-2009 05:27 PM

Close between the BHR Ignition and the AP... :)

The best and most noticeable upgrade CobbAP Tuner with a MazdaManiac tune. Made mine a beast.

06 Shinka, Turbo x exhaust, LS2 coils

Lol... well we can still contribute::

My best "mod" was actually taking the car to the track and realizing which "mods" were completely useless.

My Greddy turbo - made such a huge difference to the power band.

Never having owned or even driven a turbo car, I had expected the power to be 'just the same' until the boost gauge showed positive pressure, then some action; I never anticipated the huge addition of torque at low engine speeds.
Loved the new low end power, even with substantial vacuum still showing on the gauge, it was a revelation.

Unfortunately it was also a very brief revelation - I was running only a crude imitation of a boost map with my Cobb AP, and even with the boost limited to about 6 psi, the engine lasted olny a couple of months.

9/10, would do it again.

BigCajun 06-28-2013 04:05 PM

Nothin wrong with reviving old things Iggy.:)
Does BHR midpipe count?
My only one so far, ceramic pads next.

Lol exactly thats why I am not going to go off and randomly name parts that people have spent their hard earned money on, and I am not trying to be a negative nelly either, at the end of the day mods go hand in hand with purpose. Some mods will never serve the car's purpose.

9krpmrx8 06-28-2013 04:32 PM

I love my turbo but I would not say it's my favorite mod. I get more satisfaction from looking at my car.
