Wow, it really is difficult to pick just one, so...

Lowest cost - Pettit rotor backlit radio button.

Low cost - removing the VFAD, mating an RB Duct to my stock intake and dropping in a K&N flat filter.

Medium cost - AFE short shifter with Voodoo Magnum Pearl laser etched knob.

Higher cost - CobbAP Tuner (MazdaManiac) and BHR ignition coils, or Racing Beat gauge pod, or Racing Brake Sport Rotors with Hawk Ceramic pads, or Toyo T1R tires. ;)

What is the single best 'mod' you have done to your 8?

Clear corners. My single mod.

best single "everyday mod" short shifter
Best "cheap" NA performance mod light flywheel
BEST mod Pettit supercharger!

kersh4w 10-02-2009 11:37 AM

bought the car.

dntsan 10-02-2009 12:19 PM

Definitely the AFE short shifter and voodoo shift knob.

From a cost per gain perspective it would have to be a K&N drop in + DIY airbox mod. The RB ram air can be added for a little more $ and is said to improve it even more.

Either that or SS Brakes + good pads + good brake fluid. Adds a lot of confidance having brakes with better than the, already fantastic, feel.

plain ole wanker 10-02-2009 02:40 PM

tints 13%
2nd fav monster knob

Depends on what you bought the car for. I would say that if you didnt care about the mpg and the speedo being inaccurate, the best mod for the money is wheel/tire combo. If you want to gain over 10% whp, yes 10 percent, you can get smaller wheels/tires by switching to 17x7 and using 205/40 tires. There are several problems with this. Speedo will be off, handling will suffer due to narrower tires. The good is, due to leverage, you will have about 20 or so more whp, lower the car 1.25 inches and still have stock suspension travel, and about 15 or so more wtq also.

As far as other mods go, I did the flywheel and it gave me the most tq of all the mods to my car but have not done anything with the computer. To each their own.

Turbo kit.... (not sure if that counts as a single mod)

other than that, BHR Ignition and new wheels/tires.

TheWulf 10-02-2009 04:31 PM

Sway bars are def. #1..

In close second is the JDM left hand mirror.

DarthRX8 10-02-2009 05:27 PM

Close between the BHR Ignition and the AP... :)

The best and most noticeable upgrade CobbAP Tuner with a MazdaManiac tune. Made mine a beast.

06 Shinka, Turbo x exhaust, LS2 coils

Nice 4 year old bump newb.

Reading...a mod most on this site could benefit from.

Carbon8 06-28-2013 01:33 PM

This makes me laugh

Aw, he used the search function. Give him a break. :)

Lol... well we can still contribute::

My best "mod" was actually taking the car to the track and realizing which "mods" were completely useless.

No one likes being told that their money was wasted either, and will usually ignore advice to the contrary :)

My Greddy turbo - made such a huge difference to the power band.

Never having owned or even driven a turbo car, I had expected the power to be 'just the same' until the boost gauge showed positive pressure, then some action; I never anticipated the huge addition of torque at low engine speeds.
Loved the new low end power, even with substantial vacuum still showing on the gauge, it was a revelation.

Unfortunately it was also a very brief revelation - I was running only a crude imitation of a boost map with my Cobb AP, and even with the boost limited to about 6 psi, the engine lasted olny a couple of months.

9/10, would do it again.

BigCajun 06-28-2013 04:05 PM

Nothin wrong with reviving old things Iggy.:)
Does BHR midpipe count?
My only one so far, ceramic pads next.
Man of modest aspirations.

Lol exactly thats why I am not going to go off and randomly name parts that people have spent their hard earned money on, and I am not trying to be a negative nelly either, at the end of the day mods go hand in hand with purpose. Some mods will never serve the car's purpose.

9krpmrx8 06-28-2013 04:32 PM

I love my turbo but I would not say it's my favorite mod. I get more satisfaction from looking at my car.
