i was told an exhaust will void the warranty IF it can be proved that the new exhaust caused the problem to begin with. i would imagine that would hold true across the board. thats what my dealer told me anyway.

It seems to be pretty picky. I have put subs and an amp in a vehicle and they wouldn't cover my Alternator or Battery if they went out. Then I started getting a CEL and they said it was probably from voltage drops caused my the amp and wouldn't even check it. I don't think Mazda has a problem with that since I had subs and they didn't say anything to me. I'm not sure about exhaust, but it shouldn't void anything. I'm sure someone else has a better explaination.

Here's a good website for the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...s/warranty.htm

I have an exhaust and intake and everytime I take my car in for service they dont say anything about it. I think pretty much anything past that will void it. Personally, I dont care. If it voids it, thats fine. Greddy Turbo is on the way....

with the way my luck has been with the rx-8. rpms above 4000 seem to void the warranty. and i don't dare put a wrench to it.

I would have to say that having 50,001 miles on your car also voids the Warranty, even 63,000 miles does.. I believe!

NOTHING voids your warranty. If an aftermarket part causes a factory part to fail, that repair is not covered. A manufacturer cannot make a blanket "void" of your warranty unless they have proof that you used the car for racing, off-roading, towing or any of the other things shown in the manual.

Example: You put an aftermarket intake on the car. The oil in the filter ruins your MAF sensor. Not covered. This does not mean your warranty is void. Next week, your power window fails. That IS covered, due to the fact that an aftermarket part did not cause the failure.

See? Easy.

So, I guess I should remove that tow-hitch from the back of my 8... :D

Technically speaking, they could deny a warranty claim on drivetrain items if they saw it. Unless the factory offers it as an accessory, it could be a problem.

I don't know the page, but in the owner's manual it does specifically state that your warranty could be voided by towing, off-roading or racing.

The dealerships seem to be pretty impressed with their power of denial when it comes to the warranty. Unfortunately for them it isn't there in the way they seem to think it is. According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act they can only deny a warranty claim if the particular aftermarket part did the specific damage that the vehicle was brought in for. So having an intake installed doesn't void the manufacturer's warranty on the stereo. And it is up to the dealership or warrantor to prove the damage was caused by the aftermarket part. If the dealership requires any special part to be replaced by a dealer only part (will not accept aftermarket parts without voiding the warranty) then they have to offer the part for free.

Just last week I had to deal with the BMW dealership who takes care of my wife's car. They said that having an aftermarket alarm with remote start would void our warranty. I directed them to the warranty act above and they were very apologetic when I came in to pick the car up. They don't want to give a free car alarm so they can't complain about an aftermarket alarm when it comes to the warranty. I hope this clears up any confusion about aftermarket items.

When i contacted mazda directly while asking about the greddy turbo kit they basically said that anything you do to the car could void certain parts of the warrenty depending on wether or not the parts can be determined to be the cause of the fault like everyone has said before. But also they said since the dealerships are privately owned it mostly comes down to how cool the dealership is and whether or not they want to void it or not. In a nutshell if you want to do something to your car and are worried about the warrenty talk to your dealership and see if they will be cool or complete dicks about your warrenty. Hope this helps any tuners out there interested in tuning their 8's

Anything that has something to do with performance(mechanicle) or something to do with some sort of wiring(electical) can void your warrenty.

And the operative word there is can. Doesn't necessarily mean will.
