Yep, called up a friend in the airforce who flies an F-18 Super Hornet and he said that the F-22's have thrust vectoring and eliminates the need for afterburners. People sometimes mistakes the F-22 as to having afterburners at full thrust when they really don't. The afterburners would be a big giveaway to enemy radars because of the heat that would be produced and would defeat their stealth capabilities.

I nailed 174 once! It was crazy!!!!! The whole car started to shake and there was noise everywhere!!!!!! I'm pretty sure she had more in her too but I was afraid the car was gonna fall off the jackstands.

I saw a show on the F22. Those are bad *** aricraft. One of the F22 pilots claimed being able to take on as many as 5 F18's at once in practice and nailing them all without them even knowing he was coming.

SE3P is right no afterburners on F-22.
fwiw the Navy doesnt fly F-15's either, the only US force to fly them is the USAF
downside to the F-22... the are completely GPS leashed. A few months back, six of them left hawaii enroute to japan. as they crossed the dateline, the hit a programming glitch that affected their GPS. they had to turn back to hawaii and fly blind as they have no standard compass or anything. its all electronic.
i've sat in a bunch of military aircraft including fighters like the F-14 before retirement, F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22, A-10 etc the F-22 feels like your sitting in a VR simulator.

125 MPH is my max speed. This was a while ago on a spiritted drive with Speed3's and Speed6's. Had a tuff time keeping up.
Altitude sucks. I beleive I was in 4th gear. That is the speed we all stopped at. Not sure what the car could do but according to this calculator 6th gear final speed should be 186MPH. How beleivable IDK.

Thrust vectoring and afterburners are unrelated. Thrust vectoring is the technology that allows the nozzles at the end of the engines to pitch 20 degrees either way, increasing agility. The F-22 is powered by two F119-100 thrust vectoring, afterburning turbofans.
The confusion stems from something called "supercruise", which basically means that to preserve stealth, the aircraft's engines are powerful enough to push it all the way to M1.7 without using the burner. WITH the burner, it has been tested to M2-ish.

The car won't hit 186mph without some serious extra horsepower, but redline in 6th gear is mostly likely 186mph (300km/h) which is a pretty standard top speed there's some kind of agreement/deal/guideline thing about 300km/h, it's more widely known about with bikes since several of them actually go 186mph.

Ah, I thought the car was electrically limited to 147 or something, never considered the fact that wind resist would kill it before it hit a limiter. I am putting in a turbo kit at the moment, so I'll have the extra juice needed to cut through the wind and possibly get up to 6th gear's redline, though I might not have the stones to do it. Can't think of a safe road to do that on Long Island. Probly gonna have to take it to a track or something someday.
That being said, I went 143MPH on a barren interstate highway in North Carolina when on a road trip, and did 140MPH recently on Long Island but couldn't push it further because the road wasn't the best (too many gentle rises and falls that impaired long distance sight)

ah, you are correct about the supercruise and the burners... i guess i also got sucked into the standard line of thinking so much i forgot about that...
yeah, i've heard about the red flag stuff, but i'm sure theres more interesting stories/data/narratives out there. i'm just not in any of the proper email chains to recieve them. guess i shoulda been a maintenance guy instead of a fireman

Yeah, a turbo should get you to Redline in 6th. It takes just under 230 whp to push the air out of the way at that speed, plus overcoming rolling resistance. BTW, just adding another 30mph requires nearly double the HP. Needless to say, you'll be sucking down a LOT of fuel at those speeds.
