Where the %#?+^* heck is all this heat coming from anyway?
In a valant effort to show how utterly stupid I am I would like to ask the forum trolls where is all the heat coming from that ends up in the engine bay anyay? Yep probably the engine.
Ok more specific-- is it the the engine----is it the exhaust header---is it a combo of both--or is it secret infra red rays beamed at every rotory engine in the world from the other car manufactors?
Yall know I am drunk--right?
IF--most of the heat is coming from the header(As I suspect) or even if its just a good bit of heat from the header then why dont we have someone talanted(this excludes me) to fabricate a heat shield for the !@#(*&^) thing.
Header wrap has been discussed somewhat I know with mixed feelings but what about a heat shield? Yall have seen the survival blankets things places like summit sales or maybe I can get GranMA to quilt one for us.
Thoughts before I sober up.

The heat is from the exhaust manifold and exhaust system. The engine is only going to heat up slightly above thermostat temp preset. That exhaust is the hottest I know of on a production car. I don't see why the Kevlar header wrap would not work to keep the engine compartment cooler. I was considering doing all the way back to the Y-Pipe. This would keep the underside of the car a bit cooler (and the cup holder). It's also suppose to help scavenge the exhaust down the pipe a bit better keeping the exhaust from cooling to soon and keeping the velocity of it up thus evacuating the exhaust faster and more efficiently. When I get the new exhaust system I think I will do that.

You could always paint the exhaust with High Heat Paint to seal it up.
I personaly won't worry about moisture.

Dang---I spel better when I am Drunk
OK-- on the wraps --if anyone does that make sure you dont get too close to the o2 sensors--they get too hot and there goes your beer money.
I think I will take a roll of aluminum foil and isolate the header from the engine bay(short term) drive a little and just see what happens. Hell if that deosnt do anything then i just may leave it their and cook lunch on it. May as well get some use out of it. After that i will make a pyramid out of it and put it on my head to get egyptian rays to help with this moonshine hangover

no there is actually a little flow there. From the oil coolers back I think. BUT you mentioned one thing I am thinking about--making them more useful --shouldnt be hard to do? Team says the rad/fans give out a lot--probably very correct,--so shielding the exhaust header(with blanket not wrap) and making the side vents more functional in moving the heat out of the engine bay? Maybe some glowing red lights behind the side vents also that activate when you race your motor at the stop light?

Search the !@#$ forum!!!!

Hehe, eh just kidden dude. But those pictures should be able to help you pinpoint *exactly* where the heat comes from.
And as for insulation. I have been dying to find an application for this: www.aspenaerogel.com . Best insulation around.

I can vouch that the header pipe insulation works!
At least on my '64 Stingray it does. I used to have vapor lock because of the underhood temps, and since I wrapped the headers there has been no further issues.
That was back in 1990, and still have the same headers, so I doubt the corrosion factor is an issue.

Trekk it looks like you have reversed the problem for oil screens.
Now your going to get rocks from the tires making a hole in the cooler.
Ever thought about putting a black plastic screen mesh on the inside of the well?

Rocks dont fly that way.. unless your going backwords.. Anyways, you might not see it all that well but those cuts are still under the plastic edge that pops out.
Even if a rock did manage to fly off it would hit the over hang.
And yes I plan on making a full screan back side soon.
