IA Who can rebuild my rotary for me??

Heyguys, I am in need of a rebuild. I had things lined up with a local guy to do the actual rebuild for me but now that it has come time to tear into the motor it seems that he always has something going on. Thus, i am looking for someone somewhat local that has done a renesis or rotary rebuild that will take on my project. It can be a local person doing it out thier garage or a shop just as long as its not outreagously priced.

I already have a full rebuild kit from atkins and esmeril racing seals to go into the motor. I am unsure about if i will need any hard parts for the motor since it has not been opened up yet. The motor is already pulled from the car so i can take it where need be. I am also hoping for a quick turnaround as in a weekend if possible.

Let me know if anyone here is interested or has any suggestions. Thanks for the info guys.

You could try Shook Motorsports in Chicago. I realize that's not close, but it's about as close as I can think of for someone to do the job. I've met Ryan a few times and is a good guy. A lot of people in the local rotary community think highly of his work, though I've never used his services.

While you're in there, you should consider getting a street port. Also, depending on what you want your redline to be you also might consider getting your assembly balanced.

you could always pay for a ticket for Ray from BHR to fly out. Give him a couch, food, and money for his time and you'll have a properly rebuilt engine.

1400 + 300 + shipping - your own seals your already have= sounds pretty good to me. If Charles isn't available to fly out when i need a rebuild, i would probably go that route as well.

but i would bribe him with cheap booze and even cheaper women... plus A LOT of bullshit stories of how great i was in my glory days

I talked to sean at a-spec. He quoted me a grand to bring him the motor and do the rebuild. He quoted me another $700 to have the motor studded which i may do also. He said he woudl clean up the ports a lil bit do while it was all open. Still not sure what route i am goin to go. All up in the air but hopefully i will figure it out in the next few days.

engine is out of the car as we speak. I can tear it down but was trying to line up who was going to put it back together.... or oversee me putting it back together to make sure it was done right

phish - I'm no mechanic and i have stripped the block 3x now . Just be very slow and methodic about it and keep all the bits and pieces off the block together .

I must admit i had 2x10mm bolts left over at the end of it though - didn't seem to matter LOL

That doesnt sound right to me. You sure there was no misunderstanding to arrive at that quote? Everyone I've ever talked to said that they are quite a bit more expensive than that. I talked to an FD owner a couple weeks ago who wanted me to build him an engine...he lived 10 minutes from aspec and said he would never take his car back because they quoted him over $13k for a rebuild and single turbo install. How true that is, I dont know, but it sounds on par with other stories I've heard.

Unless you are turbo or nitrous'd there is zero use in dowelling a renesis.

This is the second conversation i have had with sean. The first one a couple months ago. The first one he quoted me $750 for the studding. He quoted me $700 this time. Our first conversation we had he was offering to design a free manifold and hot site for my turbo install if he could use my car to mock up a kit off of. It never happend cuz i was not ready for the rebuild yet.

he has not been that far off on the quotes for me. Also quoted me 600 if i were to bridgeport (not going to but i was just curious what he would charge).

Also, yes, i am turboed. shooting for max 400whp but more realistic 330-350whp.

If he can follow my removal writeup and also my teardown to block writeup elsewhere on this site, he can save that $300. And if I have to buy no seals/springs/bearings whatsoever, then he could get by for as little as 800 bucks for labor and warranty.

I think charles is even cheaper, not accounting for his travel expenses, though.

I am pretty sure i have every seal and bearing that would be needed. the only issue with going the RR route woudl be the distance and shipping. However i have definately not counted you out yet.

Bridgeport a renesis? That doesnt sound right. Without a DAMN good welder I dont see how it is feasible, there are water passages 2mm out from the stock port edge, by looking at the plates I have here. Maybe I need to study them some more.

If he is closest then I'd say that aspec is your best bet with that pricing.

yeah i asked him about bridgeporting and if he had done a renesisi yet and yada yada yada. i was not actually planning on having it done but more currious on what his response would be. He pretty much said that if i was only shooting for 400 no need to do the bridge (which i agree).

however there are a few people on here that have had a bridgebort done. I know brian at BDC has done it.
