Why must it be dual exhausts?
I meddled with selling my but considering how stale the market is right now I decided until I get some serious interest, I am just gonna throw away some money into it.
Which brings me to this, I want to start out by getting an exhaust system, but I'm a bit annoyed, why only dual exhaust systems? What bonus does this have on a rotary. Im not engineer but all this seems to do is add weight.
There is the HKS Hi Power, which I love but apparently is only for turbo'd cars. What are my options here? I dont mind noise I'm quite used to it indeed(other car is an elise with a aftermarket (w/o resonator) exhaust)

well the dual exhaust does only one thing, loes horse power! so im going to turn my dual to a single lol the only thing i dont like about it is the body, there is no body kit that lets u use a single exhaust that looks good, damn i hate that but what are u going to do

Racing Beat makes a single exhaust unit, but it is unbelievably loud. Also I know HKS played with one a while back and it gained some really nice hp, but I'm not sure they ever made it available for the public.

I am going single also... but I am just going to make mine myself...
The only problem that I've heard is that, from the heat of rotaries, you would need a high-temp muffler. But I only heard it once... so I don't know how true this is.

I know that... I've seen a few people running simple Ebay mufflers for a while now, and I've never heard them say anything about it, but these same guys probably wouldn't know if the muffler fell off either.

I would assume the "for turbo applications" just means that it was designed with that in mind.
That would also make me 'assume' its a 3 inch exhaust all the way through- and may not bolt directly on to your stock cat(if it's a catback only and not a full exhaust)

Don't worry about it. There are several people on this forum who run the HKS single sided exhaust n/a. Look for XDEEDUBBX.

I have the HKS Hi-Power on my car before it was turbo. It just means it was designed with turbocharging in mind. Not exclusively for turbo cars.
Besides, there really would be no difference if a cat-back is for turbo or not, since all RX-8's are N/A so there is no difference, unless you happen to have a custom turbo system and didn't make the downpipe match-up with the stock exhaust for some reason.

Chicken hit it right on the head: it's geared towards Turbo applications but will work just fine on N/A.

you can't go by the warning labels, my turbo kit says for off road use only. Guess what? My car has never been off road.
The hks hi-power is the best built exhaust I've seen. It's really that nice. Unfortunately it's also the worse sounding exhaust I've heard, and I ended up selling it shortly after buying it.
going to a single exhaust instead of dual isn't going to give you much gain. The biggest bonus of the hks hi power is that it's half the exhaust system, and so it's quite light.

I like the dual exits. I do not want to come across as a 'ricer' but it gives it a nice clean, mean & sleek look.
I see civics, neons, focus,( and anything else I forgot to mention) running around with single side pipes. It's almost a reliever to see something other than a single fart pipe running out the side of the car.
Understand that I know the value of shedding the pounds. But I'm not at the track everyday...And I much rather have the show than just have a side pipe sticking out, throwing off the symmetrical value of the car.
DISCLAIMER -- I'm NOT bashing on you guys. This is my personal opinion, we all have our own. And I am not saying you guys enjoy the HUGE exhaust pipes. I'm not calling your ricers

I've been a domestics fan since crashing Hot Wheels into eachother UNTIL I test drove the the RX8. I've always enjoyed the sight of dual pipes coming out the rear or side.
It's even one of the reasons (big big list of them) I bought the car. I like everything to look clean and even. And I also feel that the color of the car goes along with if it can look right or not. I purchased the BB so the dual chrome exits gave the car a much cleaner look

single exhausts just look STOOOPID on this car with or w/o any non-OEM rear end...
screw the few pounds you'll save... 90% of ppl i see counting ounces and lbs are the same ppl that have 60lbs of audio in their trunk... if you're willing to buy something that ugly just for a weight drop, then you should also be willing to gut your car.

I think the car looks fine with only one exhaust tip. I mean honestly, how many times do you bend over and look at your exhaust anyways? You never even notice there is another tip missing.
I've never once had anyone ask me what happened to my other tip (except for other 8 owners). No one else knows there is supposed to be an exhaust tip there, it just looks symmetrical (the bumper).
The HKS is great for many reasons; 1) Good power gains (yes, we all know exhaust doesn't gain you much but it doesn't loose you any power), 2) Typical HKS build quality, 3) Perfect fitment (the tip isn't angled or offset either), 4) Sounds great (matter of opinion), and the two best, 5) It weights almost nothing (under 22lbs) , and 6) it only costs around $450 shipped
